lol I live here, it's unfortunate but some of my friends are fans of the Razorbacks. It's unfortunate that I don't know many LSU fans here, so I'm usually getting yelled at on gamedays etc and taunted. Hostile work environment lol
The thing that boggles my mind is how balanced in capability some other offenses are, vs the very limited, predictabiligy of the LSU offense. I mean really folks .. .take away 4 turnovers yesterday, and LSU loses that game. A better, more seasoned QB doesn't throw those ints .. and you can bet a Lacy is not going to cough the ball up at the end of a run. I was watching Bama last night .. and saw those across the middle routes ... ya know .. the ones we never use. I was sitting there watching LSU ... there aTm had zero safeties .. the middle wide open .. not a soul in sight ... even the anouncers commented about it .... and we run two receivers to the outside. What ends up being a 7-8 yard gain, could have gone for 6 because there simply was noone in the middle of the field to cover. A TE up the middle would have basically been wide open. In fact, I watched Bama run this exact play. .. it went for like 20 or so yards. All I have to say is ... we lose in two weeks if our offense can't develope the ability to excel at multiple aspects of the game. The D will likely hold Bama to it's lowest score of the year ... but, just like with FL ... they will get gassed towards the end if the offense goes 3-out over and over like they did yesterday .. and against FL. Mett needs to losen up a bit. Play with a little abandon. Have FUN. ... pretend he is an NFL QB on sunday making fantastic plays. Read the D .. .if they have 10 guys in the box .. like yesterday, run off tackle, instead of off the center .. play a pass. ... and PLAY ACTION ... I mean .. dang, everyone is waiting for us to run ... fake the handoff, and the whole defense will bite.
You are trying to hold Les responsible for Mettenberger's bad throws. Put the blame where it belongs. Les is responsible for recruiting quarterbacks for sure. But Les has had two 5-star quarterback recruits bail on him in the last four years (Zach lee to MLB, Gunner Kiel had no chest), plus a third (Shepard) who was converted to receiver. So he went out and got another the top QB recruit (Mettenberger) from JC. This year he has a pair of quarterbacks committed, a dual threat QB from Georgia and a pro-style QB who is lighting it up in California and will be in the Army All star game. It's damned hard to fault Les for bad recruiting. Developing the quarterback is Steve Kragthorp's job and he's the coach with questions to answer, both last year and this year. I have to wonder if the illness that prevented him from being OC is hindering him as QB coach as well. Les will have to decide. But if the problem is developing quarterbacks, Kragthorp has that responsibility. If the problem is a somewhat predictable offense, then Studrawa has that responsibility. Les will have decisions to make in December. But ultimately the quarterback himself is responsible for being focused, reading defenses, making adjustments, and more basically . . . hitting his open receivers. Coaches can train him up in defense reading, adjustments, keys, and knowing the playbook, but they can't throw the ball for him. That's the one thing that only the quarterback can be held responsible for . . . throwing the goddamn football accurately.
So far, they are based solely on his brother's reputation, we haven't seen him pass the ball. The main issue right now is that he is greener than Mettenberger.
You can blame Miles for the national championship game all you want, and I would agree with you. There were no adjustments, no moves, we just kept trying to tear down a brick wall by banging our heads into it. However, you cannot blame Miles for anything that has happened this season. Mettenberger has been given opportunity after opportunity to make plays, he has been put in position to make plays and has missed throws, or the receivers have dropped balls. At times this season yes there has been some suspect situational play calling but overall, the play calling has been pretty good.
I'd like to see Zach use his legs more. There were a few times in yesterday's games that he could have gotten 5-10 yds rushing Instead he chose to try and throw at line of scrimmage. Manziel would've racked up at least 50 or more yds if he had been behind our offensive line. Man am I praying that CLM is keeping this offense reigned in to prevent Saban and company from having game film to work with.
I'm not sure I would go that far. LSU was flat against Towson and Auburn and it is the coach's job to have his team ready to play. LSU has not had the confidence and swagger this year that we have become used to. The offense is predictable and if Stud can't fix it, Les must fix it. Les has had some issues, he's just not responsible for Mettenberger's inaccurate passes.
I'm not so sure that our offense is really predictable this year. Many times, we "try" to pass when I feel like we should pound the ball (since that's what we do well.) However, for one reason or another (bad throws, dropped balls), we are NOT executing the gameplan. Miles is giving Mett and the receivers plenty of opportunities to make plays; execution remains our #1 problem. I get it. Our offense is frustrating and ugly. I think changes need to be made, certainly. But the knee jerk reactions about our coaching staff are silly. No one, NO ONE, wants to be successful offensively more than our coaches and players. From reading this board--and others--one would think LSU is sucking offensively for the hell of it.
