Points allowed per game: 2006: 12.6 2007: 19.9 2008: 24.2 2009: 16.2 No compare the past 2009 to Bama, UF and UNC: Bama: 11.7 UF: 12.4 UNC: 17.1 Now look at the plays TOTAL for 2009: LSU: 771 (886 in 2008, 1,054 in 2007) Bama: 947 UF: 919 UNC: 845 No surprise there, our O stunk it up. On another note, from 2005 -2009, LSU has had 1 season where they did not make the 30+ points a game, DING DING DING 2009. The conclusion: We can clearly see that in 2008, the 24.2 points per game was as bad as it looks, though to counter it, we came back last year and held teams to 16.2. That was even better than the 2007 D. If we can get a total play number around the 910'ish mark, we will see a 10-2, 11-1 LSU team this year. If for some reason the let it all hang out and go for over 1,000 plays, say hellow to :crystal:! We still had issues on D, but most are easily related to a non-dominate D line. Nothing much we could have done there. Just one of those down years in that area. It was clear though that when teams entered OUR red zone, we shut them down, which a very good quality to have. Those crunch times really tell us a lot about those players out there, they do not know the word quit..... With that, our D was good enough last year to win a title and I feel that we undervalued them. We have heard the term from the SEC that D's when championships and their right. They do. Add our D, (which will improve) our special teams (which could be easily the nation’s top) and the POTIENTIAL talent explosion we have on our O and LSU is set to start rolling again. The season is almost here!!!!!!LSU!LSU!:lsup:
remember you played 14 games in 2007 vs 13 in 2008 & 2009.... although you are correct that 771 is a dismal number.... lowest play total in Div I for 13 games.
Good point, in our final game, Ohio, we had 76 plays. Take that from the 1050 and that is about 975 which is still very good. I would be ok if LSU could get close 880, but IMO they should be @900 or a bit over with our talent. So, 70-75 plays a game.. I understand that wont happen every game, but at a minimum, LSU should ATLEAST get 60 plays off. In 6 games last year we had less than 60 plays and 3 of those we had less than 50.
