Random thoughts: 1) You have to wonder if Flynn's shoulder was still an issue, as we only attempted one sorta long pass play and it wasn't pretty....EVERYTHING was underneath (or maybe it was the 2 deep zone OSU was playing) 2) OSU's offense was too vanilla and played right into LSU's hands, as I had predicted.....Wells is a damn fine back, but we shut him down after that 65 yard run and caused Boeckman to win the game....he couldn't 3) Not only did OSU not have the athletes on the edges, but it appears they didn't have the hosses up front as well (both lines of scrimmage dominated by LSU) 4) Patrick Fisher will be a late round draft pick (he is nails) 5) LSU has a lot of depth on this team, an unreal amount actually 6) Les Miles may be the best head coach in college football, seriously
I don't know if I believe the video was "setting them up for failure." I think Tressel used it to get his players motivated, and perhaps it worked for 10 quick points. After that, talent took over... What I couldn't figure out about the game was our sloppy start. Why did we come out so nervous? Not bashing the team, coaches, or the win. Just curious about why it even happened in the first place. After watching the rest of the game, it was obvious that we were way more dominant, so why weren't we dominant from the very start? That being said, I'm just thrilled they won the game. Geaux Tigers!
He was probably trying to find a play that would work. Our secondary played some of the best coverage i've ever seen.
Because OSU scored on a 65 yard run and a 30 yard pass to Saine set up a FG on what was already a short field, that did not translate into OSU "dominating" LSU. It was 2 flukish plays in which Steltz was out of position and misread the play and Highsmith/Jackson blew their assigment on that one pass play. Had OSU ran a 14 play 80 yard drive to go up 7-0, I would have been worried. On the flipside, we never got a chance to convert on 3rd with the bad snap (again a flukish play) on our first series.
One thing that I noticed was not only were we the faster team we also looked bigger. I wonder if they don't list those boys a little heavy. The legs on our linemen looked to be a 1/3 bigger than theirs.
In no way did I mean to say we were 'dominated' at the start of the game. What I said was that we were sloppy and apparently nervous. Steltz, Highsmith, and Jackson all normally play much better than they started. The 'flukish' plays prove my point. They seemed to be the product of nerves.
Good call. On the defensive side I thought they started a little over aggressive, and it maybe it was because they had a feeling they could run with and play man on the OSU receivers. They brought people up into the box, Beanie made a nice cutback and they paid for it. Falling behind, The offense sputtered on that first possession. Les was so smoothed, though. You could read his lips when the O came off the field calmly saying "Settle Down, Settle Down." They all did, and the rest was history...:thumb:
