Merry Christmas everyone!!! I was curious as to why the Advocate was waiting so long to print this story. Apparently, the Advocate decided to wait and publish this beautiful story in their 2007 Christmas Day issue. Nice touch. Merry Christmas!!!
Yes he really will!!! The Advocate confirmed it in an interview with Ciron. Ciron told the Advocate that it is something he has never done before: “Prior to this, I’ve never written anything,” Black said. “I’ve never really been a big fan of that until now.”
Now you see JohnLSU, there is a Santa Clause - Just kidding - hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas Day. Merry Christmas :yelwink2:
The Advocate reported that conversation between Ciron and Mikey's mother on Baton Rouge radio was the first time that the two were able to speak by voice with each other. And it was during that on-air conversation that radio personality Scott Innes surprised both Ciron and Mikey's mother with the news that Wallace Heck, who has had personal experience with cancer and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn, would send a 42-inch plasma TV to Memphis so Mikey and anyone with him Jan. 7 can watch the national championship game on a big screen. Also, it was actually during this radio interview that Ciron first publicly announced his pledge to wear Mikey's name on his wrist. It was also during this radio interview that Ciron promised he would go visit Mikey in person as soon as he is able. When Ciron first found out about Mikey, he wanted to visit him in person, but being that Mikey is currently at a special hospital in Memphis, Ciron hasn't been able to go visit him, yet. Although, according to the Advocate, Ciron has been meeting locally with friends and family of Mikey who aren't in Memphis. The sad thing about that radio interview was that the conversation with Mikey's mom had to be cut short because of Mikey’s cries of pain in the background. As the Advocate explains it, when the radio host heard the pain Mikey was in, he cut the conversation short so that Mikey's mom could go attend to her son.
Hey buckeye78, Welcome to Tiger Forums, IMO the best Tiger land has to offer. This is not a rant forum (usually) and its not milk toast either. Its a solid forum with some students, alums, plain old Tiger fans (me), ladies, friends from other forums who found us and just stayed (Hawker from Iowa, Mr. Peabody from Oklahoma, Deceks7 from Auburn, uscvball from USCw, Terry from Alabama, and some more), and a few of your crazy old uncles! :hihi: We look forward to the opportunity to compete with one of the best programs in America. I think we know we're in for a tussle, nobody gets to this game without having talent. LSU faced 7 team ranked in the top 25 this season, and we think we've proved our mettle. We've slipped against Ky. and R-Kansas, so we know when we don't play our best, we can be had by teams with less talent than OSU. Stick around and have some fun with us. Good football talk will be on the official game thread, but if you've got a special point, start a thread up. Treat us with respect and a little humor, and you'll get lots of it in return. Merry Christmas! Edited: Forgot what I was responding to, yes, folks seem to be away or enjoying their families, and it is a bit slow in the number of posts. Wait a couple of days, and then we'll go into BCS championship game mode, and I'll guarantee you a higher posting volume. Invite over any buds also, all are welcome.
The Advocate agrees. Near the end of their piece on Ciron and Mikey, it says: "This story is ... incomplete. It is missing pieces and echoes will fan out across the country and return to Louisiana. LSU fans have written national columnists and others about Mikey Conger and Ciron Black. You will hear more about them."
Merry Christmas, buckeye78!!! Thanks for the compliment on how great LSU fans and players are. I wish I could say the same for OSU... ha! ha! ha! Just kidding!!! Merry Christmas!!!
In that pic of Mikey wearing #70 in an MBS jersey, you might be wondering who "MBS" is and who the other child wearing #70 is. As the Advocate explains, that is the sixth-grade Most Blessed Sacrament School football team. The other child wearing #70 is one of Mikey's older brothers. That was Mikey in his healthier days, sharing honorary co-captain honors with his brother.
