With apologies and credits to the late editor, Francis P. Church for his 1897 editorial in the now closed New York Sun JohnLSU, you are wrong. You have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age of ESPN fiction. You do not believe except you see. You think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by the little minds on ESPN Game Day. All minds, JohnLSU, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge. Yes, JohnLSU, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no LSU Tiger spirit. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence between our Tiger's games. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The external light with which LSU Tiger spirit fills our world would be extinguished. Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in the power and strength given LSU by playing at night in white jerseys. You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if you did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world. You tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived could tear apart. Only faith, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, JohnLSU, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding. No Santa Claus! Thank God! He lives and lives forever. A thousand years from now, JohnLSU, nay 10 times 10,000 years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood. :yelwink2:
Great post fishhead, I would encourage other members here to do just that, I try and visit Justins site at least a couple times a week and leave a message. I am quite sure that his mom appreciates every message, it has to be hard being up there all by your self most of the time. I know their family visits as much as they can. But as a mother, to see your child so sick, I just feel that every message has to help her feel a little better. :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux: :geaux:
As a followup, I am posting the email sent by the boy's father to Dandy Don that was posted on his site today. Very well written. Don, I wanted to confirm to you that the story on Ciron Black is true. Michael Conger is my youngest son. He is a leukemia patient at St. Jude and has been fighting this disease for the past 2&1/2 years. He is currently at Memphis and in need of prayers. We want our little boy to just have the life we have all had. He, and many like him, live day to day on a fight that sometimes is not winnable. Ciron realized that and he wanted to encourage Mikey to keep up the fight and win it. Ciron asked for nothing in return. He sincerely wants Mikey to beat it. Ciron is the guy who will be a great role model for our kids. If he represents the character of our team (and I believe he does), we have some men that we will be proud of when they complete their football careers. He, and they, will make a difference in our world. They are definitely champs in more ways than on the football field. The same is true of their coach. I believe we surround ourselves with those we respect and love, and there is no doubt we have a Championship Team. I think they are going to make us proud on January 7. I know my little boy will be watching from his bed and cheering for his team. Its a great day to be a Tiger! Please pray for all the ill children at St. Jude and elsewhere that have to spend Christmas in the Hospital. Their BCS continues everyday. Thanks.
I've been monitoring both JayB's and Mikey Conger's web sites and noticed this today on Mikey's: Last bit of news. This morning, we recieved a big, big package for Mikey. It contained a 42-inch Plasma TV for Mikey to watch the LSU Championship Game!!! Thanks to our friend Scott Innes and Heck Industries, Mikey will be able to see the game. THANKS, you have made Mikey's day! We have to wait to see if Mikey's inpatient or at Ronald McDonald House on Jan 7 before we set it up. Posted by his dad, Mark Conger. Warms my heart. Scrappy, please pass on to Scott and the others who made this possible my sincere thanks. There is no greater gift than giving to a sick child. They did a good thing. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/michaelvconger
Not hard to figure out where Ciron's character comes from. Here is her post, MONDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2007 01:09 PM, CST Dear Michael, I wanted to write to you, because I read a lot of nice things about you. We have something in common and that is, my favorite team is LSU Tigers, too. I'm Ciron's mom. He told me about your page, and I wanted write to you, also. We are from Texas, so I don't get a chance to see my son as much as I would like to. So whenever he comes home we sit down and catches me up on things. And your name came up. I just wanted to let you know during this season in your life that "Your attitude will take you places your mind never dreamed to go. I will put you and your family on my prayer list. Hang in there!!!! Sandra Black Sandra Black TX
Nice to see. In what i've seen on buckeyeplanet, LSU fans have been some of the classiest fans in all of CF, no reason to expect anything else from their players. Thanks for having us on the site, looking forward to some good football discussions. quick question, it seems as though there is not a ton of posting going on right now (probably b/c of the holiday), thought maybe i'm missing some forums somewhere. Merry Christmas!!! and Good luck tigers! Go Bucks!
