Character. There is a little boy named Michael V. Conger. Michael is in St. Jude's hospital battling cancer. Three days ago he received this blog on his web site. SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16, 2007 10:19 PM, CST Hey Michael, I recently saw your story and wanted to have the honor to write in your guest book. My name is Ciron Black. I am the left tackle for the LSU tigers football team, im also number 70 and I saw you wearing that jersey number, that's a great number by the way. You know some people see us as heroes because of how we play but the truth is people like yourself are the real heroes. I see all the small problems I face are nothing compared to the hardships that you may go through. God has a plain for all of us and for some reason he put it on my heart to write you tonight...if it is at all possible I would love to talk to you. My number is #%$^%^&$#% anytime day or night if you need someone to talk to. Hang in there buddy and just know that anything is possible through Christ. Your Friend, Ciron Black P.S. I would love to write your name on my wrist tape as I get ready to take the field on Jan. 7th for the national championship. Let me know if that is ok. Michael's family, who lives in Prairieville, called and met up with Ciron to take pictures and thank him for his support. Ciron gave them a football signed by the entire team. I don't know about you, but this is the kind of player I want representing LSU in the NC. Maybe Ivan Maisel needs to read this since he has no respect for our football players and the type of men that Coach Miles has on his football team. ----------------------- (I stole this from the rant. Thought it was worth a read.) Nothing but praise for Mr. Black. Two threads today.. both from the rant. *tear
I hope this is a true story. Character in a coach, character in a player. Not many teams can boast these things in this day and age. Get well soon, Michael.
Absolutely great story (Going to defend Maisel as he does as much with charity as anyone including similar women and children's hospitals)
Beautiful, beautiful, story. But after being duped many times by such stories in my early internet days (anybody can write anything they want and email it around the internet and claim that its "true"), I've learned to search the internet first before believing everything that I read. Your post claims that this message is from a post that Ciron Black sent to this poor kid (Michael V. Conger) on his "blog on his web site." Why can't I find his blog or website on the internet? Why can't I find this message that Black supposedly posted on it? Sure, there are many reasons why his blog might not show up on my internet searches, but the bottom line is that I can't find anything at all about this poor kid or this story that involves him. Granted, I'm not saying the story isn't true, but if it is, I guarantee you it will be picked up by the Advocate and the local BR news stations very quickly. Hell, if it was true, ESPN would do a special on it. I'd love to believe that this is a true story, but I'll wait to believe it until a reliable source confirms it.
