The defense had made more improvement than the offense to this point. This a work in progress. Probably not good enough to keep us in the game vs Florida, but we shall see. That's why they play the games. Maybe we play the game of our lives defensively. The offense has all to do with the play calling and to give up on the standardized power runs. If we get away from that and get back to Crowton ingenuity, then we will be lights out on offense and can beat anyone in the country. That's a big IF.
There are definitely some positives: 1) Jordan Jefferson - He played great today. He brought his A game. I see some people saying he played good (B+), bla.. bla.. bla.. It was terrible conditions, he had no running game at all, he connected on bombs, had great TD passes (should have had another two to Tolliver who ran out of bounds and LaFell who dropped a pretty good pass in the back of the end zone) and once again didn't have 1 turnover. What more could you ask for? I was impressed that we had any decent passing game based on our running game. 2) Receivers - They are getting open and when they are covered tightly they are still catching the majority of their passes. LaFell is GREAT. 3) Defensive Playmakers - Our D isn't great and struggles at times, but we make BIG plays this year. Last year, we just sucked. Our secondary is much better at playing the ball this year and making picks, etc. We've had a few picks for TDs this year that have been huge in each game. Chad Jones playing like he did in his first year at times is huge. Peterson is obviously awesome. Taylor is aggressive... 4) Russell Shepard - I've already mentioned him. Play him more...he's just a weapon waiting to be utilized properly and has looked great. 5) Jasper - He's done well this year and made two or three stops on kickoffs today. That's not good for our kickoff team, but it's great to see a kicker do that. Most kickers want no part of that. 6) We've won all our games. 7) If we can get our total mystery of a running game going, we could be a very good team. If we get more creative with our calls, then even better. 8) Georgia gave up 38 to South Carolina and 41 to Arkansas. So they have some holes on their D. These are the positives.
I agree. our strenghts are our Passing game and our Secondary. they are comming up big. Yea, we had two blown plays, but I think they are going for ints/big hits and missing the tackles/coverage.. IN all, loads better than last year. I dont care waht the score/yrds say. Our D stepped up big time...
