I agree with this. I thought it was a great coaching decision. People are...sorry if this offends, get over it...stupid to say he almost ran the clock out. There were absolutely 4 seconds on the clock when the ball was caught...4. NOT 1!! Just like Mack Brown had the second put back on the clock in the B12CG, we would've had 4 of them to work with...with the clock stopped! Plus, as you mentioned, Flynn broke the huddle with MORE than enough time to run that play. He just didn't call for the ball quickly enough...or did he? I guess he did, since he ran the play with 4 seconds to spare! So sick of people holding that great play AGAINST Miles!! That was one of the best moments in LSU Tiger football history! Man, we've slipped as a fanbase when that play becomes a negative...a reason to bash :miles:. :dis:

YouTube - THE Catch. LSU vs Auburn 2007. THE Death Valley Defeat.

The announcer right after the play...
"THAT is the call of the YEAR!!!"

4 seconds clearly on the clock as the ball is secured and DByrd is on the ground in the EZ with it. Great call, great execution on all parts, great result, great to see Tuberville walking away with his back to the field wondering WTF, great to hear the announcers TOTALLY fooled by what was going on, GREAT to hear the Tiger fans erupt, great to see the team and the coaching staff fired up and excited. Quit using this great play to condemn Coach Miles!

I watched the game. One of the greatest moments in LSU football, but it was a VERY risky call. Sorry. If that ball is tipped up in the air or something, that thing could turn into a disaster. I remember one or two seconds being left at the end, not 4. Even if it was 4, that's still cutting it pretty close.

The proper call is to call a timeout with 15-20 seconds left, take your shot into the end zone, then kick the field goal if it doesn't work. He had a timeout. Throw in the Ole Miss debacle from last year and Les has had trouble managing games at the end. Even if it works, that doesn't mean it was a good decision.

Now as far as the topic at hand, I think a 9 or 10 win season and there is no way in hell you can fire a coach. Just not right. Last season was good. You can't win a National Title every year. Two years ago was very bad. No excuses to only win 8 games with that schedule, meaning, 4 of your wins are against high school teams.

Now, as far as this year, 8 wins without the 4 rent a wins we usually have is probably not a horrible season, so that would be on the borderline. Less than 8 wins, not only is he gone but he should be and nobody should bitch about it. You can't have top 5 recruiting classes year after year and win 7 or 8 games consistently. No matter how you try and spin it, an appearance in the Weedwacker Bowl is not a good season for LSU's program at this point.

I am trying to follow your logic but you lost me. The proper call vs what CLM did would be what?

I'm not sure anyone can effectively argue against that. Miles needs this season. 2nd in the SEC West or better and he's OK. Anything else, and I think the pressure will be incredibly difficult for the AD. I like Miles, but he has to get results this season.

By the way - if that doesn't happen, and LSU tanks this year, and Miles is gone. Some new head football coach is going to walk into one of the most talented and underperforming locker rooms in the country. That right there is a dream job.

If you think about who the upperclassmen will be, 2011 should in many ways be the season for LSU. It would be very good to see a 9 or 10 win season this year, and Miles at the healm with an uber-talented 2011 team.

Now that you brought it up - those were bad times to be a Tiger.

    1) I don't really care what you "remember". I posted a link with a video that PROVES there were 4 seconds on the clock when the ball was in his grasp and he was on the GROUND in the EZ.
    -
2)The proper call was exactly what he did. There were 28 friggin' seconds on the clock, and the whole reason for NOT calling the timeout was the element of TOTAL surprise!!! Again, watch the video...and listen to the announcers. Also, I would like you to pull up Colt David's CAREER stats prior to the '07 AU game, and explain to me why his coach should've trusted him in that situation, the game on the line, the SEASON on the line, to kick a 40+ yd field goal as time expires...
    -
    3) FWIW, Tuberville had a timeout too. He just happened to get supremely outcoached, and carried it with him to the losing locker room. Smoke that, beyotch! (Tubby, not you)
    -
4)Please tell me the last time LSU only won 7 games...and do you expect that this season?? Also, when was the last time LSU was in the "Weedwacker" bowl. I remember...do you?
