it's a bit premature to make firm decisions like that. i am sure there will be a sig. share of ALA players making an sig. impact on their NFL team, just like LSU will have a sig. number. for all the dislike of Saban, he is an outstanding recruiter and coach. he's at ALA, not LSU, so I could care less about him and focus on CLM, and LSU. but, i respect his abilities.

was shocked to hear this and actually slightly pissed after he had my Saints waste a draft pick on him (actually two, since we traded up and gave up a future draft pick to do it)

I hear he has a great chance at the backup role at his position on the line for the Steelers

Do we have enough players in the NFL to fill out the starting positions? Can someone put this together?

If Minter is one of our best LBs in the NFL but technically not a starter yet, he would be a starter on the fictional "LSU NFL" team. If we do not have any TEs, then we can add a 3rd WR (i.e. Bowe, Lafell, and maybe Devery if he makes the Redskins roster).

McClure retiring may hurt our O-Line but hopefully we'd have enough still in the league to form a unit.

Last month, my husband was on a flight with the defensive coordinator for the Bengals. They talked about SEC players, and he told my husband that they are generally very impressed with LSU and UGA players, but that Bama players were sort of "worn out" when they entered the NFL.

oh, i respect sabans abilities as for recruiting and coaching, but i can't think of many bama players who've made it big in the nfl since he's been there. he's started with the best, so you'd think with the championships and claims to get his players nfl ready that they'd jump out the gate once they get to the next level. julio jones is about the only one that comes to mind that has been better than average. more others who've been drafted early have had their issues. so i'm not convinced he's gotten them any more ready for the nfl than a lot of lesser schools. his new recruiting ploy is the amount of money last years players signed for. if history proves correct, most of these will be by far the most (and may be only) lucrative contracts they'll have in the nfl. anyway, i like the early signs of things. bodes well for lsu and may be used as part of our recruiting strategy.

Saban's Bama players are still young. LaRon Landry, for ex, didn't make his first Pro Bowl until last year at age 28. Some young Bama players that did well last NFL season include:

OT Andre Smith (25) - starting RT for Bengals

CB Javier Arenas (25) - #3 on Chiefs in tackles, #1 punt returner, #2 kickoff returner

CB Kareem Jackson (24) - #1 on Texans in INTs, #1 passes defended, #5 tackles

WR Julio Jones (23) - Pro Bowl - #2 on Falcons in receiving yards

S Mark Barron (23) - #3 on Bucs in tackles

DT Marcell Dareus (23) - #2 on Bills in sacks

OLB Courtney Upshaw (23) - #2 returning tackler for Ravens

RB Mark Ingram (23) - #1 on Saints in rushing yards, #1 in rushing TDs, #5 in total TDs

RB Trent Richardson (22) - #1 on Browns in rushing yards, #4 in receiving yards, #2 in scoring (behind kicker)

    ILB/OLB Dont'a Hightower (22) - #3 on Patriots in sacks, #5 in tackles

(ILB Rolando McClain was #1 on the Raiders in tackles at 22 years old before he torpedoed his career)

Anyone see that punt from Donnie Jones in the Eagles/Pats game?

As of right now, LSU has around 55 players on NFL teams.
