I know no one can focus on much else other than the SECCG, Miles, Pelini, etc., but LSU's men basketball team beat up on two in-state teams this past week in some tune-up games. Most recently, a dominant win over Southern last night. Yawn? Well, the things I take away are: 1. Brady and staff emphasize defense, as they discussed, and both opposing teams score around 50 point or less, and LSU blows the teams away by 30+. This team may be interestingly competitive if they can maintain that defensive intensity and find ways to defend to their strength, while keeping their offensive efficiency. 2. Scorers are emerging. And, they are all "new" players... Randolph, Thornton and Chris Johnson  . This in itself perhaps is not that surprising. Tas' goes down and we have to get the scoring from elsewhere. But this trio shoots 60%+ from the field and all three can score 20 points. Last year, I'm not sure we could say that. Big Baby and Tas' was about it. Now, we've got a "triangle" offense of sorts, with inside and outside threats. No more complaining about an uninteresting offense from Brady. 3. Dominance of LA schools. Ok, this probably is a footnote, but this makes like 65 games in a row LSU's won over other LA schools? I do hope that the LA recruits of the future realize, if they want to stay in LA to play college ball in front of family and friends, there really is only one top tier place to do so. 4. Lastly, yes, I'll be the first to acknowledge that these wins do nothing more than act as scrimmage games. But, looking at the box scores, I see Brady using all 10 players, with key role players continuing to get good minutes. Bo Spencer, Garrett Green, Dameon Mason, all got good minutes, and contributed. Let's hope that Brady continues to use that rotation win or lose to get our young kids more PT. If he does that I believe some of our attrition issues will become less of an issue down the road. :geaux: :bball: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. (PERHAPS EVEN MORE AFTER YET ANOTHER FOOTBALL LEADERSHIP TRANSITION... :yelwink2: )
