Saw this posted in the News forum: SEC lacks a hurricane plan | shreveporttimes.com | The Times Go ahead and read it if you haven't already done so, I'll wait. So, here is my solution: Each and every game that is scheduled to be played should have a documented contingency plan in place well before the season starts. Either the SEC, (or in the case of a non-conference game, LSU and the OOC team), should come up with what will happen if the game cannot happen due to a storm. I envision a series of "what ifs", including things such as: 1) Move game time up or back, possibly as much as by 24 hours. 2) Move game to another location, preferably somewhere neutral, north and indoors. For example, while not ideal, I think most would agree that it would be better for LSU and Florida to play in the Cowboys' or Colts' stadiums if the alternative is to not play the game at all. If we plan far enough in advance, that may be possible to arrange. 3) Move the game to a weekend that both teams have a scheduled BYE week. I think it is not unreasonable for each of the 12 scheduled games to have a plan like this, with each plan have multiple options available.
Why not either: 1) Start the games one week earlier or 2) Move the SEC Championship game back one week or 3) do both and have two weeks of leeway for rescheduling of missed games or 4) Make arrangements for every weekend to use an NFL stadium that has no game scheduled if necessary?
Just out of curiosity, does the ACC or Big East have any type of plan? Those schools aren't exactly completely safe from hurricanes, either.
