Really is a crazy rule but the rule I never understood a single reason for is the dropped 3rd strike. That is a stupid one.
Maybe it is a spoort. Watch any sport. Football, basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, tennis, any form of racing from foot racing to horse racing to motorcycles, cars, boats, swimming or handball, racketball, golf, and on and on. The second it's over you know who won. Throughout the entire event you know who is in the lead and who is behind. No, I don't know how to judge gymnastics and neither do you. Nobody does. Of course you are going to say your daughter should have won but you have no idea who won until you are told.
