I'm finding it hard to believe than anyone that associates themselves with these groups are far from Christian ideals. Based on the crowd last night at the SC GOP Debate. Just War Theory = Bad Killing = Good You know the whole "do unto others.." mindset: The Golden Rule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I would hate to even ask them WWJD. More like WWJT about them.
catholics dont read the bible at all. evangelicals read it, but evangelicals are stupid and it wouldnt matter what it said anyways. jews read the crap out of the old testament. but jews are dirrty scoundrels. at any rate, you cant really blame christians for any specific instance of impropriety or hypocrisy, their whole book is nothing but page after page of ****ing nonsense. so they are following it, no matter what they are doing. killing folks? ok bible supports it. being nice? also in the bible. every other randon everything? supported by the bible. its whatever anyone wants.
The evangelical movement is the most hypocritical group in the country and, IMHO, the single largest threat to our democracy. The evangelical movement, by way of the political actions that they support, would actually prefer that we have a theocratic government that dictates what is and isn't moral based upon their understanding, or lack thereof, of an ancient text. I also have a problem with their revisionist version of American History. Our founding fathers were clear that ours would be a secular government while recognizing that each person is guided by their faith and convictions. This notion that these men were evangelical christians is absurd. It was the age of reason and a great number of the participants of the constitutional conventions were deists who held a basic belief in God. The others were members of what I call cerebral religions, meaning that their rites do not include a lot of emotional drivel, such as Presbyterian, Methodists, Lutherans and Episcopalians (spelling?). Please recall that the pilgrims left England to seek religious freedom from the Church of England. Rex, you are right, that there is a lot of saber rattling among the Republican candidates with the exception of Ron Paul. I found it telling that when Paul mentioned the Golden Rule he was booed by the debate audience. Lastly, their neglect of science and refusal to teach science in their private schools are the height of ignorance. It bothers me to no end that in spite of 98 out of 100 scientist claiming that climate change is real, the evangelical movement will cite the 2 out of 100 who disagree as if they were in the vast majority. Scientific understanding is growing at an all time high and the evangelical position will continually be harder and harder to defend. By the way, I consider myself a Christian. I just don't like it when people start distorting the simple message of a jewish carpenter into a political agenda that is a far cry from "Love one another."
Did you guys miss the part in the Bible where it says Thou shall not kill? You know the 10 commandments.
Sure they do. They're quick to throw the Ten Commandments in your face when someone wants them displayed on a courthouse wall. They fall back to Genesis when they want to argue on behalf of creationism and will use Leviticus when they want to whine about same-sex marriage. They just choose to ignore anything that doesn't jive with their personal interpretation of what they think God wants. Jesus would never be a Republican.
