So... Will sanity return if we win the SEC?

I check out other LSU message boards from time to time and the one constant is that cooler and often "wiser" heads prevail here on TF. As a matter of fact, rarely have I seen anything but "hit and run" fools with 10-30 posts spew insanity around here... Yet the whole forum is filled with absurd coaching change topics and negativity that you'd expect after having a season like Bama just did.

Look, we are a great team and we've had an insane season. Tell me another team that could have gone through our schedule with only 2 losses in triple OT. I know we all wanted and believed this was an NC year... and it was, but it takes more than just a good team these days, it takes some considerable luck... with the way the ball bounces, the refs, and injuries, even the best teams can get left out.

I guess what I'm asking is for all the chicken littles to temper their knee jerk hyperbole. I can only surmise that these people became fans January 4th, 2004 and expect everything to go our way.

So, if we win the SEC, will cooler heads and sanity return to this forum or is the fact that we lost 2 games from a tough schedule in triple overtime just too much for that? Well, is it?

The past five days have been an insane time to be a Tiger. The coaching rumors last week were distracting; this week, they've gone way beyond that.

For the first time all season (no, actually, for the first time in years), I don't feel confident that we will win the game on Saturday. I feel like we're bruised and beaten, and what possible sort of message is being sent to our team when Pelini and Miles are running around, jockeying for new jobs?

This whole situation has jumped over into surrealism for me.

Sanity will return for me because I never lost it. I love my Tigers win or lose. It's just a game. I also respect all posters opinions here at TF. I don't know where else you can go and get this kind of entertainment for free.
God Bless the LSU Tiger Nation.:geaux:

Neither coach Pelini or coach Miles are running around jockeying for new jobs. People are coming after THEM. There is a big difference.

Tell me one person on this forum that is so happy with what they do that if someone came to them and said "hey, we are really impressed with what you have done with xyz company and want to know if you are interested in talking about getting a huge raise by coming to work for us. You don't have to commit, but will you at least listen to what we have to say?" Everyone on this board would say yes. At least we would all LISTEN to what they had to say. The difference is you and I would not have half a million people up in our business while we did it.

Chill out. It is a testimant to the fact that we have good coaches that people are interested in hiring them. Did you think we were going to keep Pelini forever? That isn't the way it works in athletics of anykind any more.

I don't want to see any of them leave but if Pelini does, I have confidence in CLM to make the right hire. If CLM leaves, I have confidence in Skip Bertman to make the right hire. This would be a plum job and the cupboard is loaded for bear with the recruiting classes we have had over the last couple of years. I want to repeat that I hope neither of them leaves but we will live to see another day if they do.

I'm stuck in an office for 10 hour days six days a week. This stuff is gold. I'll be sad to see it all end in a way. The last five days have been most entertaining.

And no, this will not end until after the bowl game. The entire CBS broadcast of the SEC Champ game will probably go like this.

"And Perriloux hands to Hester. Nice gain over the right side of the line for about 6 yards. Gary, it amazing to me that this team can even get a play called with all the distractions this week." "

"I know Verne, I mean Miles and Pelini are both leaving."

"Perriloux drops back, hit Byrd on the slant for a Tiger first down. Imagine how much better that play would have worked if they had time to actually practice it this week between interviews."

"You hit the nail on the head Verne. And why the heck is Dorsey even dressed out??? With his NFL potential there is just no reason for him to be playing for a lame duck coach."

    "I agree Gary."

Yeah, it's going to be a very enjoyable broadcast.

I agree with StaceyO ....I don't see LSU winning this one, and not because we don't have the best team.

Well the question posed was if we WIN the game.

If we win, people will be happier (notice I did not say happy). It will be a relief to know we didn't totally collapse all in the span of 9 days. We can then look forward to our next head coach and whom our opponent will be in the Sugar Bowl. LSU will have ample time to prepare and hopefully demolish an inferior opponent. At least the season will end on a high note.

That being said, this was our national championship without a doubt in my mind. It was in our backyard, again. I don't know when the next chance will come, and that's what hurts most. Especially living in a conference that just seems to cripple you in some form or another. Damn the SEC!

I am "chilled out." And I do know it's a compliment that other schools are interested in our coaches. But I don't think for ONE minute that this mess going on this week is conducive to our winning the SEC this week.

I agree with the previous post also in that Tiger fans are reeling because we lost our chance to win the NC last week. I hope it isn't as my husband (a North Texas alum) said as we left Tiger Stadium last week, "Maybe NC's only come around once every 50 years for LSU."

We spend money and time agonizing over athletic contests featuring 18-23 year-olds who don't even get paid. We're already insane.

If your goal is to win the NC and nothing else then you're setting yourself up to be miserable just about every year. Yes, we controlled our destiny, but so did Ohio State, Kansas, Oklahoma, and several others. Until we have a playoff, the NC will be determined by much more than who has the best team. As someone pointed out earlier, the Champs of the 2 worst BCS conferences are in line to play for the crystal. That just sucks. My goal is for LSU to win the SEC. After that, what happens, happens.
