So who thinks we're actually running Gary Crowton's offense?

I think it's comical that you guys think there are two separate playbooks.

Crowton has OC'd in the NFL before, meaning he has run a pro-style offense. What makes you think I-form and double TE sets are sooooo far removed from his taste? He can adapt to anything.

The problem is the playcalling, not Les Miles intervening.

I should have clarified. If Les Miles has any influence on the offense it's I formation, 2 tight ends, some shotgun formations. Personally i don't think he has anything to do with it except some personnel calls. And maybe he trumps play calls on important situational plays, fake field goals and punts, going for it on 4th etc.

Obviously Miles prefers ball control, as he should. We need more ball control. The time of possession breakdown was awful last night.

I'm ready to give Crowton the boot, but I don't think Miles is meddling. I think he and Crowton found a common ground philosophically and Crowton has full autonomy.

He's simply an inept playcaller is all.

yes, but, the every team below tOSU had two losses. so, no matter what, a two loss team was going to play for the NC, it just happened that LSU was that team, and they got there by winning throughout the year and hanging tough.

as to who runs the offense, CGC or CLM, i am hearing good arguments on both sides by seemingly insightful posters/fans, but do any of us really know? it is all speculation. CLMs offenses seemed to be more effective at OSU than here, and CGCs pattern is to fall off as the years progress. that seems to be the most telling argument to me that this IS CGCs offense. how do we figure it out?

as far as the UNC game goes, we simply took our foot off of the pedal, and then proceeded to make mistakes, otherwise, the game is a blowout. i am not discouraged at all, and feel like our hallmark this year will be a tough defense with close wins being the rule, and a few convincing wins when our special teams play like we did this past week. that formula will = 10+ wins, just watch.

I've always thought that the notion of Crowton's offense being only good for 3 years before it gets figured out is a bunch of horse crap. Crowton has been running offenses for decades. Are all of the DC's so stupid that it takes them 3 years to figure it out when its been figured out several times already? :insane:

Is it really concidence that in his last four stops (Bears, BYU, Oregon, and LSU) his best offense was his very first year? Something is happening there.

I'm not saying it's that DCs figure him out. A lot may have to do with developing talent, particularly the QB, rather than inheriting a ready-made product (Matt Flynn, Kellen Clemons for example).

    Edited for clarity.

What game were you people watching?? We were obviously running a hybrid offense of Crowton and Gonzales. Our shotgun formations looked like just like UF, and the power running out of it. Only difference is that we can go to a more conventional look at times. We didn't do any looking to the sidelines, we took shots down field, and were not predictable with substitutions.

IMO, what Miles has done, is basically have a new coordinator while keeping the similarity of the old system. Unfortunately, it seems he was forced to keep the old by Alleva.

Money has nothing to do with keeping a certain coordinator around...again the University has little to do with their salaries...it's TAF and sponsors. If a coach needs to be gone he can be gone.

I don't know if I would want a new OC coming in during JJs and JLs last season....Maybe if Mettenberger comes in from Junior College and it's his first year also, but It could cause more confusion than what we already have.
