Was Mack Brown there and ESPN just didn't show him? I doubt it -- he's a national-championship-winning NCAA football coach just like Les, he gets paid a multi-million-dollar salary just like Les, he's the coach of a prominent NCAA football program just like Les. Did Mack Brown go to the CWS final when Texas was there in 2002, 2004, or 2005? Did Mark Richt go to the CWS final when Georgia was there in 2008? Did Butch Davis go to the CWS final when North Carolina was there in 2007? What about when Miami was there in 1996 or 1999? Did Bobby Bowden go the CWS final when Florida state was there in 1999? I thought it was cool that Les was there, not only to support the team, but to get the extra publicity for our football team and recruiting.
I loved that Les was at the games. The publicity he garnered was incredible. ESPN, in addition to interviewing him, had cameras on him, and I never tired of hearing them call him a national championship coach in '07. Also, think how recruits will look at him. He was so obviously proud of Mitchell and Jones, like a proud dad. Nothing but good pub.
I really can't think of 1 unlikeable thing about Les. There is nothing to gripe about with that man. Yet another reason why i am very very glad to have him at LSU.
Yes, it cracked me up reading the Cattle forum that John linked, where the bovines were complaining about seeing The Hat all night. Bad PR move on Mack Brown's part not to be there, especially if he watched on TV, saw The Hat there on Tuesday, and did not immediately jump on a plane for the Wednesday game. BTW, it wasn't pointed out, but Trent Johnson was there as well. I saw him in at least one shot, and CPM talked about him being there, but I guess the talking heads didn't get the word.
And the fact that it was a Louisiana school and a Texas school playing; therefore, a huge percentage of those watching are also from Louisiana and Texas. They just happen to be our two major recruiting sources....brillant move by Les....and they say we have a dumb head football coach.
Just another reason why LSU is the best school on the planet. The entire family is there for each other. I loved CLM's expression every pitch and strike Chad made. He looked like a proud papa. Gotta love the love he has for his players.
Some texas fans wondered where Brown was also...they also said that Miles made a fool of himself. But, they lost so they are probably upset about that.
I can't begin to believe that I would defend Mack the slimeball. But I remember reading recently that he was going over on the coaches tour of Iraq that Les did last year. Maybe (I really don't know) he is still on that trip. Either way, great that Les cared enough to go up for a couple games. Where we thought we would lose him to MI, the guy bleeds purple and gold now.
