I am curious as to what the coaches may see in practice that we don't, that allows them to keep making JJ run the option. Either our #2 defense cannot contain worth a crap or they just don't care about what they see. I understand staying the course, determination, etc. but I think there is more than enough data to support that JJ should not be running this play in a game. Maybe he does it well in practice but it has rarely translated to a game. And I have always hated it anyway.
An amateur doesn't do football for a living, like you and me. A professional is someome who does football for a living . . . a very good living. Like Crowton and Miles.
Has there been any screen pass this season? I don't remember seeing one despite my yelling at the television. This is a constructive thread, and that's good. Buuuuuut, don't you guys ever think about what other coaches (say Boise State's or dare I say USCW's) would be doing with the talent we have on offense. I just keep coming up with the same thought. This AIN'T it. I still say Geaux :milesmic:. Please! Don't mean to be negative...just what I think about with this team at times. Otherwise, how about getting Trindon out in space occasionally.
If we had magically switched coaches with Boise State's HC or Carroll we would have the same record or worse. Why? We are limited by the QB and OL. Those are the bottlenecks. Carroll would possibly tailor more of the offense around JJ and use Shep more often at QB, since he apparently has no problems starting true freshmen, but even he can't turn a green 19-year-old into a Heisman contender overnight. Boise is a system team, and the ensuing rebuilding of the offense possibly costs us UGA too. Swtiching coaches is no magic bullet because of the personnel; better playcalling is the key to succeeding the rest of the way.
Nothing much to add...just a quick thanks for the intelligent, rational discussion. It's a pleasure to read this after the past few weeks. Carry on, lol.
I have said the same thing myself but the more I watch him, the more I realize he cannot move except in a straight line. He moves east-west like a scared 17 year old. Unless he gets exceptional blocking, he doesn't break free. If he ever developed the ability to catch with any consistency, his speed could be exploited(ala Skyler Green), but I have yet to really see that happen. Does anyone really think the coaches have not explored that possibility in 4 years of camps?? Trindon is fast and always a threat, but a whirling dervish he isn't.
Trindon CAN run east-west if he keeps his legs going (Ohio St.) His problem with E-W running is how often he tries to channel Reggie Bush when he does it. He's not a runner to make cuts and then turn on the rockets. There have been so many runs to the outside where he could have picked up good yardage and/or 1st downs, but instead cuts back inside and gets minimal gain. As for his hands, if that issue hasn't been fixed after all this time, it ain't gonna happen.
I'm not so sure that I agree here. So is a high school or Jr College coach a professional? Maybe that is where a very good living comes into place? Then again I think there are coaches that make a good living that aren't very good either. What I'm trying to say is that all coaches have to start somewhere. I don't think I would call them a professional when starting out or at certain levels of sports. I'm not so sure I would call a coach of any amateur sports a professional? Convince me otherwise.
