Red brings up the best point of all. While I have never been to the "Stan" I can imagine the FOB's are similar to those in Iraq and I can tell you that you are not getting off the FOB alone. In fact you have to have at least a 3 vehicle convoy to even think about leaving. Wandering off alone is unheard of. Whatever the circumstances it happened and I'm someone will be doing the carpet dance for it soon.

As for the Soldier that did it, yeah just lost his marbles. It happens and there are plenty and I mean plenty of resources available to all service men/women there. Someone in his leadership chain either missed some very important signals or the guy just snapped all at once. Sad.
