I was most encouraged by the first two offensive play calls following the INT. Two passes down field, one for 12 yards and the other for 13. Granted, the drive stalled but I expected (as we've all seen over the past four years or so) that coming off an INT the Tigers would be more prone to try to protect the ball. I was very happy to see throws down the field, and successful ones at that.
But in reality, Idaho only moved the ball effectively on one series. And lost by 49 points. Our defense isn't bad, and in the first three games, it's almost looked like our defense didn't want to bring the hurt, so to speak, to UNT and Idaho. They were MUCH more aggressive against Washington, being from a BCS conference. We'll see on Saturday how aggressive our defense looks against AU.
Im not at all saying its Chavis. I just think its a lack of focus on the team as a whole. Chavis is our best coach IMO. He has the most proven track record. As I said, Im not saying LSU isnt a great team. Im just saying we need to have better focus. LSU has too much talent for anyone in the conference outside of Bama. Right now Bama is playing on an insane level.
They really aren't. Have you watched them much or are you drawing conclusions based on the final scores? They've certainly got their areas of concern (e.g. pass protection), but I expect both teams to improve over the next month and half.
My thoughts exactly. Before Arkansas let the wheels fall off, they were playing toe-to-toe with Bama, who was really sloppy. But...Arkansas may, in fact, be the worst SEC team I've ever seen. In my lifetime.
I would have liked to see our backup QB(s) throw a few passes. If Mett goes down for part of a game or longer, I have no idea what our offense would look like. I'm guessing it would be a lot of runs and short passes. Having Rivers in the pocket, going through his progressions, and making a throw downfield for the first time in his career would be better in a game like Idaho than suddenly thrown into a tight SEC game (possibly on the road).
Should have thrown more! Preparing backups has been something that LSU has done long before Miles. Only Miles has never done it.
