Military So ISIS & the Middle East

We are killing the ones that actually threaten us, wherever we find them. Why spend lives and treasure killing the ones that are killing each other? I mean, what the fuck?

Assads Syrian totalitarians, the Islamic State, Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, and Saddam's Iraqi guard are all killing each other with vigor on their own turf. Their economies are shredded, their casualties mount, their support plummets, their threat to us dimenishes, and their internal problems multiply.

Ain't it great?

 

You are beginning to sound as puerile as Attilla. Do you have any practical ideas, you know . . . ones that are actually doable? Fantasies are for dreams and movies.

Are you actually saying that we should go to war to stop muslims from killing each other? Syria and Iran versus ISIS, man. We couldn't pay for a better scenario unless we can get Hezbollah, Fatah, and Hamas to start fighting Al Qaeda.

 

It's not a target-rich environment at present. They have stopped driving convoys, operating tanks, engaging major offenses, and other activities that are subject to air attack. They have hunkered down in their holes and lost their offensive momentum, which was the idea of the airstrikes in the first place--containment. They have had to go back to guerrilla warfare instead of the open military offenses in their fearsome Toyota pickups.

 

This is what I can't see. What evidence do you have for this? There are a billion and a half muslims who aren't threatening us. There are a dozen muslim countries fighting other muslim countries, hundreds of muslim militias fighting each other all over the place. There are 7 million American muslims who haven't caused us trouble here. We have many important muslim allies. The muslim world has simply not lined up behind the jihadist radicals.

We must ruthlessly focus on killing the terrorists groups that threaten US. We must not squander American lives and treasure trying to solve all the muslim world's problems with each other. We must not lose focus and go off tilting at windmills. We have serious Russia and China issues to deal with and we can't afford to get mired in the middle east trying to help people who hate us or kill other people who don't threaten us.
