Darron Thomas: "calling everyday, texting everyday, all day long" I hope all that texting was prior to August 1 since its now a rules violation to text after that date. Right Urban? BTW...watch this guys commit. Will make you feel good to be an LSU fan.
Now that it's official, I'm guessing that the coaches have made up their mind on a position. My bet is that he's going to get his shot at QB in his first year, and then move to WR later in his career. I wonder how this affects WR recruiting? The coaches know in the back of their mind that this is where he'll likely end up. Do they count him against the WR numbers?
That's what I was thinking also. I don't know why people view a prospect that is listed as a 3-star QB but has the abilities to play WR at a competitive level as a bad thing??? The coaching staff wouldn't outright lie to a recruit if they ever hoped to continue with a good reputation in recruiting, so I doubt they would have told Thomas he would be the ONLY QB in this class, but rather they would honor a scholarship but inform him they are still looking for another QB this year, and once he gets to campus, give them both every option to prove what they can do at the position before possibly making a decision as to where either of them are best capable of helping the team win.
Quote from Thomas in a new Scout article, “I actually committed to coach Miles the last day I was there but we wanted to keep it under the radar,” explained Thomas. “I’ve been just waiting on the news channel to have some time and last night we got it done.” Like I said when it happened, if Sonny says it's gone through - it's gone through. Another interesting quote by him. Seems pretty different than his Rivals quote saying that he preferred LSU because we were recruiting him at QB. “Like I told the coaches, whatever position they want me to play I’ll play it,” explained Thomas. “If it’s wide receiver then I’ll play there. If it’s quarterback then I’ll play there. And if it’s somewhere else I’ll play there. It doesn’t matter as long as I can help out the team.”
I'm no doctor or anything, but this guy looks like he has a lot of physical maturing to do, like he might still get taller or significantly stronger. I'm not saying he's definitely a QB of the future. He just looks like he might really blossom as an athlete a little later than most.
Anyone got a link to some video of his? I don't have scout/rivals account.. and can't find anything on youtube.
My guess is that the coaches feel like they have a good shot at getting the remaining top WRs on our board(Tolliver, Brown, Surrency). We also need to remember that Peterson is only a soft commit, so if he leaves that opens aanother WR spot.
