Hate to see him go but I believe this is the best move for Coach Henson. With all the coaching moves we've made in the past 2 seasons, it was getting obvious that he was going no where fast in BR....and yes, he really wanted that OL position when we hired stud. I was sorta hoping the lack of news was a good thing but was sure this was gonna happen. GL coach in Mizzou coach :thumb:

The proof is in reality my man.

I mentioned this when the rumors of ogre first surfaced. This aint a step up or even a lateral move.

I would have to agree with this.

Henson may not have liked Les flirting with the Ogre but I bet in the end it was about the cha-ching. Who wants to bet he got a 10-20 percent pay hike? In that respect it is a move up. Im sure you would like to make an extra grand or two per month.

Like most major life decisions, I imagine that Henson’s choice to leave LSU for Mizzou was based on multiple factors, and not one single incident. I have absolutely no information other than what is publicly available, but here are my thoughts:

Henson has been with CLM for a number of years and likely wanted to be more than the TE coach at this point in his career and I would assume that he has expressed this to CLM. He was passed over for the OL job (and possibly others). LSU flirted with YawYaw, which certainly could have stuck in Henson’s craw (and don’t you just hate it when something sticks in your craw!). Putting all this together, it would not be unreasonable to think: “Hmmm, I’ve hit a bit of a brick ceiling (to mix metaphors) in my career. Am I satisfied being TE coach and recruiting coordinator or do I want a shot at more?” The Mizzou job offers Henson the opportunity to show that he is more than “just” a TE coach and a recruiter ... that he can coach other positions.

The vast majority of us would relish the opportunity to be the TE coach and recruiting coordinator at LSU and would be happy to never move up in the coaching hierarchy. However, the good coaches have egos, want to prove that they can coach other positions, want to coordinate the offense/defense, and eventually be a head coach, etc. I think Henson believed that he was not going to get those opportunities at LSU, or that he could get those opportunities quicker at Mizzou. For his coaching career, this was probably the right move.

The coaching profession is like most other professions. Sometimes one must take a short-term loss (move from LSU to Mizzou) to realize a long-term gain (more opportunities). Sure, it’s a gamble, but no risk = no reward.

From LSUs perspective, this may not be as great of a loss as some may be fearing. We have had significant coaching changes this offseason on defense, and some of the additions are known as good-great recruiters. Also, LPorter was just named Rivals recruiter of the year, right? LP was reportedly responsible for 8 of our total recruits, and three of the four 5-star players. I know Henson is a great recruiter, and we sure hate to lose him, but sometimes things happen for a reason and for the better. I wish him well, but do not expect any drop off in recruiting personally. I, however, do not have any specific expertise or insight into this. CParso, BHelm, Izzy, others....thoughts regarding impact on loss of Henson on recruiting?

But, it's a change of scenery, which is what he may have felt was needed.
