Because when the wind shifts...................................... Saban was 2-3 because of the home field advantage. Look it up. Truth. I was in T town last year for the la monroe game and an LSU fan was leaving the hotel as I checked in. He asked me directions to the barn and I said, "East until you smell it, then south until you step in it." Highs fives followed and then I showed him on my map. First time that I ever got to use that one.
We've talked about his recruiting and where you thought the classes would be ranked. I've considered how he's doing so far, and I'm almost willing to say if we land Julio Jones and Star Jackson we very well may end up with a top 5 class. I won't come across with an "I told you so." I received a text message on the cell today to check out the thread on Saban on the other LSU forum, tigerdroppings. I don't post there, very, very seldom read there, but it was interesting to see some of the comments on Burton Scott's verbal. FWIW, I think the date is the 23rd of August when Star Jackson is planning on his announcement.
The question remains; will Bama fans be happy with 9 and 10 win seasons with top 10 recruiting classes if they lose to Auburn 3 out of every 5 years? I'm not saying Bama will lose that often to Auburn, I don't have a crystal ball, but Saban never "dominated" any of the top tier coaches in the SEC. He was 2-3 against Tubby, 1-1 against Richt, 2-1 against Fulmer, and only 3-2 against Houston Nutt. He was also 0-1 against Spurrier and 2-2 against Ron Zook. That's a 10-10 record against the top SEC programs. It's nothing to be ashamed of, we were certainly happy with Saban at the helm, but homefield advantage can't be the excuse for every loss. At some point, you have to win on the road. I'm just askin'.
Very possible this year, but that is mostly due to an incredible year in talent this year in Alabama. There are twice as many 4/5* recruits in Alabama this year as last year. I said that Saban's classes would be generally be outside the top 10, but occassionaly inside it. This year looks to be one of those occassions. Last year's class didn't deserve to be top 10... it was there because of hype & selling subscriptions. This year may be affected the same way, although probably not to the same degree.
I wonder if our talent is actually as "Down" in Louisiana as projected or if the Hurricane caused players to be moved around so much that they weren't easy to locate and maybe weren't scouted as much. Just a thought.
Disagree.. Bama is always one fo the better states when it comes to talent, and Saban will wrap it up. As good as Bama is this year, they may be better next year. He will be a great recruiter, just like he was here. Bama owns Alabama, so the Louisiana only has 1 school debate is irrelevant.
You just made the case for parity in the SEC. Parity among the top coaches and programs, that is when intangibles such as bounce of the ball, injury bug, crappy officiating (remember jerkin' hair '06) come into play. The Bama faithful are not as delusional as portrayed, all we ask for is a level playing field. When that is achieved there are intangibles that are peculiar to Bama that kick in and more often than not, we win those close games. Saban @ Bama will be more successful against the barn than Saban @ LSU. Mark it down. There are many that think Miles has made the Saban@Bama thing bigger(to him) than it should be. That may be the game that we win when we are not supposed to, should that happen the fans will cause doubt in him and the "we lost to Bama at home for 30 years" will make CLM miserable.
The only way Saban will be fired is if he loses, and with the success he seems to be having at recruiting, I don't see that happening.
Where would be the proof of that? Coach Bryant didn't need to cheat, there were unlimited scholarships and Bama could afford them. That is not cheating and you sound like a barner.
