Shannon Terry has nothing to do with the rankings of players. What flies in the face of that assertation is how Scout.com ranks them. If he had so much control, do you think it would effect Scout as well. I find this amusing, especially considering the other thread about players for LSU jumping from 3 to 4 stars. I don't expect Parso to give much love to Bama's rankings. After all, he stated we would get an top 10 class occasionally, but top 5 was just a dream. Top 10 happened last year...and with the way things are looking we are in line for a top 5 class.
It doesnt effect Scout. Case in point...Bama's class rankings last recruiting season. Most services, including Scout, have Bama's class well outside the top 10. Amazingly, Rivals has Bama with a top 10 class. Shannon Terry may not directly rank classes or players but his influence and the large bama investment in rivals does.
Not directly, but he certainly does have influence. I mentioned 2 reasons. The other was selling subscriptions, and I believe Alabama's Scout membership numbers are also one of the highest in the country. Every big time program gets it to a degree. Rocky Duplessis probably wouldn't be a 3 star if he wasn't committed to LSU. But it happens to a much larger degree for Bama. I can admit when Bama gets good players & when they deserve to be ranked in the top 10 or even top 5. Alabama has several very good players committed already this year, and had a couple sign last year. This year's class will (most likely) deserve a top 10 ranking, last year's class didn't. And I don't believe I ever said that top 5 was just a dream. I think that, if I mentioned it at all, I said it would be rare.
No doubt Saban is under more pressure this season than Miles but if you want to talk about the 1 on 1 matchup, who do you think has more pressure on them??? LSU has to come to a very rowdy town in Tuscaloosa and win a game that not 1 player, coach, or fan would like to lose. What if "F'n Alabama" does win? What does that say for Miles? How will the LSU fan base react to that? Answer that question for me...Anyone can win on any given Saturday right? So lets look at the senario of what if's before the game is played. If Alabama shocks LSU (and the nation), what does Saban look like? Then tell me what Miles looks like... The most pressure, in that particular game....is on Miles...
Miles wont be judged on the outcome of one game, it will be the season as a whole. LSU could have a one loss season with the loss being to Bama and still win the national championship. Bama could have a one win season with the win being against LSU and Bama fans would be jumping off buildings. As nice as it would be to see Miles get a big win against Satan it wont make or break the season and certainly not his career.
One loss and make it to the NC game, yes. A loss that late in the year, no. Now, I thought about the UF v FSU rematch a few years ago...but, the BCS wasn't in place at the time either. Interesting report up on Rivals this morning about asst. coaches on the hot seat...one mentioned is Crowton...with the subject being if the offense doesn't do well this season he'll be the scapegoat. I can't say I agree with it, but I did find it thought provoking.
