We all know that when the BCS totals are so close, style points are usually the leverage used by the human polls to push 1 team over another. We all know our total thrashing of VT last season was one of the key factors in our push into the BCSNCG as well. So explain to me why, when the opportunity presents itself... Miles finds it unnecessary to run the score up. I would think that everytime the chance is there, he'd like to punch the ball into the endzone and quit being so content with winning by a TD or so (see the USCe game for an example). I think LSU would garner much more respect by the pollsters if we actually thrashed a few people and didn't leave any room for question in some of our wins. I know this season hasn't really been opportunistic to do this, but he's done it in several games the last 3 years and it's frustrating.
What about when it comes back to bite you in the azz? Ole Miss could have easily put another 7 up on us last week, but they knelt the ball a few times and killed the clock. Very classy by CHN.
Yes you're right it was classy, but it's not to be expected this day and age in college football. Myer, Saban, Richt and all other SEC coaches would run it up on us if they have the chance, garuntee you... Myer did it this year. Ever notice when we beat Florida it's usually by a narrow margin, but when we lose to Florida it's often times by a rediculous margin? Another reason why Myer has been successful in lobbying for UF in years past to voters. Same reason ultimately OU will more than likely surpass UT if they beat OSU.
I agree with you there. UF has always run it up on LSU. However LSU has never really run it up on Spurrier or Meyer. I think style points are overrated. If you can't do it in a game whenever it's still a "game" (i.e. not a blowout,) then why does it matter if your number one or twos can put up points against the other team's threes and fours? I think the BCS standings of this week proved that fact. UF didn't get much love for putting 70 up against the Citadel did they? But OU did get some love for putting 63 up against TTU.
so what happens if Texas dosent run up the score on A&M and OU thrashes OSU. Texas could get passed by a team that they beat on a neutral field which (other than auburn 2004) would be the biggest travesty the BCS has ever produced.
I agree... but to some voters style points are the edge over a close #1 vs. #2 or in this case a very close #2 and #3 BCS team. But the difference in those two examples is the difference between the programs of Citadel and Texas Tech. But a huge reason UF is back in a NC hunt atleast imo, is not only their winning, but the fact their winning most games by a rediculous margin.
UT being left out wouldn't be a travesty really... they got beat by a TT team that got womped by a OU team. Not to mention that chances could be that TT will play for a conference championship, maybe win it... but still get left out. No matter who from the Big 12 goes to the NC... two other teams have a legit complaint.
I would rather have a classy coach who does not run up the score and act like as ass... even if it costs us "style points." It's better to have the respect of your opponents rather than the respect of a bunch of pollsters who don't even watch the games... IMHO. Bottom line... Meyer is an ass. Spurrier was always an ass. Coach Les Miles is not.
They might be asses to some, but why with our talent why should we settle for lower bowls and not the higher ones, because our coach is too nice and classy as to not run the scores up on our oppenants and give us a chance at better BCS rankings? Maybe that little over looked area of football is why teams like USCw, OU, UF and the like get the flashy runners and lightening speed multi position standouts and always seem to be national contenders.
The Texas and aTm game is interesting because it's on Thanksgiving. The OU and TTU game is gameday on Saturday. Texas, if they can't beat a sorry A&M team by a meaningful amount, doesn't deserve the points over OU, IMO.
