What they may be trying to say is that we have more talent because we have had many top ten recruiting classes in a row. I believe we are tied for second as of today. You would be correct in stating the first string talent could be very similar with the top teams. The difference is the bench. We win allot of games in the second half, due to the fact that we rotate players so much. Other teams do not have the same talent on the bench and get worn down.
Define "talent". For purposes of recruiting we base that term on production in HS. It doesn't always translate to CFB so saying that about LSU is a plus for our coaches. THAT IS something I credit Miles for A LOT. We play young players, he and our coaches do a great job getting them ready for this level imo. Another of Miles' strong points. You don't hear RB's complain about lack of PT and leave like they once did at USC when they were stacked. Not fair, your friends get BJ's.
Do you have a point? They only get BJ's from you----you little gum drop. Now go and wipe your chin off, and try to come up with a more appropriate response next time.
Along the DL, this years class may after a few years, rank with the 2009 class. In 2009 we had Sonic Sam, Logan, Downs, Brockers, Davenport and Mingo. Davenport being the only one moving to the other side of the ball. As for the OL, in 2001 we signed a good class in Ben Wilkerson, Whitworth, Niswanger and Nate Livings(Ok, this was the second of 3 years he signed with LSU).
I'm not sure what you are trying to argue, I agree that Miles era is the best ever at LSU. I said so. But its very hard to compare different eras. I just think that people who didn't experience the Cholly Mac era, sell him short. LSU was consistently good and nationally recognized under Deitzel and McClendon.
I think it's necessary to use both. The number manipulation cuts both ways. Example, lets just take a 10 game season vs. a 13 game season. 80% of 10 games would be 8 wins vs. 80% of 13, which would be 10. But Tulane was a charter member of the SEC. They even played in the Rose Bowl once, for sure.
Tulane has not been a member of the SEC in the time frame I referenced. I know I'm old, just turned a year older today, but I ain't THAT old! And it is NOT necessary to use both. 80% = 80%. Name the other LSU coach that won 80% of his games, that actually coached for a season or more. I wait...
I DID experience the Chollie Mac era. I did not experience the Dietzel era obviously. But the point is, the one people sell short is MILES. And I'm not suggesting you do. Or even Tiga. But it's really simple to just use winning %. You saying Chollie Mac had it rough because of being in the same era as Bear? I agree. Miles is in the same era as Saban, who is in the middle of an even greater period of success than Bear Bryant ever achieved at Bama. Miles had to deal with Florida thru some good years with Meyer and Tebow. He went thru the Cam year at Auburn. The SEC is damn sure stronger as a whole than it was in the 70s or 80s. Yet Miles still wins 80%, while Chollie Mac did not. Arnsparger did not. Archer did not. SABAN did not.
