Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blahhhhhhhhhh! We have had top recruiting classes over and over and over and over again. The problem with LSU is NO offense. It has been a problem ever sense Les has come to town. We rank in the bottom third of the NCAA. Every year that LES has been here! Can Les finally admit to his shortcomings, or do we endure another lack luster season? Yeah! We got two of the best QB's in the class. Just no one to develop them! Without an Offensive Coordinator/QB coach that will mean the same predictable offense we have run for YEARS! Les finally has to realize he is not the GOD all of you have made him out to be. The sad reality is with the talent we have had, we should have won more than the one {extremely lucky National Championship} that Les won early in his tenure. So tell me Tiger Fans, that you are satisfied. It will not last, and you will look back and wonder.
The haters have been saying this crap since the day Miles was named coach at LSU. They won't stop until he is finally gone, but that might not be for a long time. Anyway, Miles and the staff did a magnificent job this year. Last year's class added a tremendous boast to the team and I am expecting this class to have a similar impact. Hiring Wilson along with Chief was smart. To bring in a national class like this shows how hard they all work. It takes great coaching and recruiting to compete with the best and we have that.
Win 23 games, a conference championship and play for a national championship? You're right, what a loser.
I love how some of the same posters who always bemoan how Miles wastes "the most talent in the country" are now denying that they assert we have more talent. We don't. We are on par with around 10 other teams--which means we are at the top of the heap for talent. But we don't and haven't had MORE talent that any other team. And that has been spouted ad nauseum on this board for years.
We didn't have 11 and 12-game seasons then either. And just a handful of top bowl games to pad the records. LSU had one of the biggest stadiums in the country in that era, filled it, and finished high in the attendance figures each and every year. In that era, 9 game seasons were the standard for excellence. And we didn't have enough of them because Bear Bryant was at his peak and was the only nut that Charlie Mac couldn't crack. Everyone can agree that this past decade has been the golden age of LSU football, But the McClendon/Stovall/Arnsparger seasons were years of winning LSU football and a top reputation nationally. Only in the Hallman era was LSU a loser of a team. The inconsistent Archer and Dinardo had both 10-win seasons and losing seasons.
I don't think you're referring to me but I do want to say that I happen to enjoy your, and Fish's, posts very much. Don't assume because someone doesn't completely agree with you that they are against you. On Miles, there happens to be a lot of things I DO like about him. Regardless, no one can argue with what he's accomplished and he's obviously not the goober he comes across as being. He's not my choice for a game day coach but the way he handles his kids is the way all coaches should. It's also a reflection of his success recruiting also. My point in entering this thread, however, was not to slam anyone. I was just trying to put some perspective. Like what you referenced about people going bat shit crazy, it works both ways.
I am satisfied. If you aren't satisfied, you are like my seven yr old that complains that his ice cream doesn't have sprinkles. Unfortunately I'm lumped in with you dumbasses, one day because of you we will lose fulmer and end up with Kiffin, Dooley, Martin, etc
Don't disagree, but I don't think it's that simple, Red. I was at LSU when Archer became coach, and then Hallman. Archer is a case of what I was speaking to. He inherited a solid team, but couldn't keep it going. His 10 win season was his first season, and it went quickly downhill from there. As far as Arnsparger, he was a good coach, but not much of a recruiter. Stovall was a better recruiter than coach. This assisted Arnsparger achieve success. When Miles came in and went 34-6 in his first 3 seasons, the "living off of Saban's recruits" crowd was loud and proud. Well, after year 8, Miles is currently sitting at 34-6 in his last 40 games again, and it's because he's been able to maintain by great recruiting, coaching, and management. Therefore, the talent alone argument is done.
Also Red, let's just use % instead of real numbers. More telling. What was Chollie Mac's winning % vs Miles? Arnsparger's? See what I mean? The numbers can be manipulated to make anyone's argument seem sound, but that number doesn't argue. It's a fact that cannot be skewed. And if we wanna talk about schedules? Please. I used to look forward to the Rice game every year as a younger person that loved beating the ever living crap outta some team. And we played Tulane every season. I remember the Bear Bryant/Chollie Mac series. O'fer. I also remember losing to USC, although it was a GREAT game and we could've won. Miles has a very impressive record against top tier teams. Chollie Mac did not.
