I get this. It's not lost on me. Remember, my thought(s) had to do with sustained success, the comparison of the two era's, and seeing the dip after '07's title stuck out to me. Now. That was a two loss team that made it in and won. It dawns on me I'm not giving the '08 and '09 teams a fair break if I'm looking at them under an "USC '04 type team" as far as title winners in the BCS era. There's another view here. There aren't many schools that have had back to back coaches win national titles. (Miami and FSU are the first that come to mind.) LSU is the only one in the SEC to do so. Auburn has a chance with Gus and Bama does with Saban's successor. There's a really good chance that is something that'll stand awhile in SEC records.
Saban inherited a underachieving laughing stock and left a championship caliber program. Miles inherited a championship caliber program and left an underachieving laughing stock (albeit, he wasn’t allowed to totally return us to the pre-Saban days). We’ve already tried the ultimate run-no pass vs Bama. I agree the solution isn’t pass-no run, but I believe O recognizes the importance of balance. To punch back a little more, Saban isn’t going to respect the pass unless we light his ass up repeatedly. He makes hay on college QBs not being able to execute at a high level under pressure. That’s a good gamble in college, especially when you out-talent just about everyone. Saban can name his price in college football. Miles can name his podcast.
True he would have been a excellent coach but I believe the crucible he went through in Miami tempered him and made him stronger. Likewise the crucible Les went through competing with Saban showed him to be of lesser metal....finally cracking in January 2012.
Saban inherited a large amount of talent, some of the players have already been listed here. Just go look at the 2000 roster. Miles last full season at LSU would have been a 10 win season (if McNeese did not get rained out) underachieving laughing stock? Stop making shit up. We are not going to beat Alabama this year, and O surely did not last year or the year before that. We had plenty of talent left by Miles. Miles did better than little nicky at LSU. Putting down Miles our most successful coach and a very loyal coach to LSU is sac relig ---- Get over yourself.
Not putting Miles down at all. Miles deserves a lot of credit and appreciation. But, when you compare the two, Miles and Saban, Saban is a better, more complete coach, and that showed on the field at LSU and beyond. If Saban's tenure at LSU was the same exact length as Miles, you would have your coveted stats to prove it. Believe what you want to believe, others disagree with you. LSU was certainly lucky to have both. However, I'd take Saban back in a heartbeat, Miles not so much at this point. Again, appreciate what Miles did, his enthusiasm and professionalism, but his stuck in a box mentality just became too frustrating for me and his brand of football just wasn't fun to watch anymore. But, when comparing the two, CNS would have won more championships (I'd predict 3-5 total) at LSU than CLM did in the same tenure (1). No doubt in my mind about that.
The do anything to win boosters at Alabama made him stronger, and very quickly. What did he learn in the NFL--how not to succeed. I guess Miles beating him in Tuscaloosa that same season means nothing. Miles and LSU had a damn good football team that season. Should have had a third and final game in Baton Rouge to settle it. Hell we should have never had to play bammer in the first place. Yes satan is a much better coach than any in the entire country. Maybe you can go tell him in person. You may even get his picture and autograph.
