Just an illegal booster story. How awesome would it have been if bama would have gotten the death penalty over that?
Saban's a good coach and all but with that many 5 stars, he should be. I agree Miles was better at LSU. he put up 11 wins his first season & just kept going. The 2011 season was the most fun I've had as an LSU Tiger.
My favorite was the 1997 season. Especially the Florida game. Spurrier had been drumming us for nearly a decade. We lost to them 56-13 the year before. The pure joy and excitement is hard to explain. Let's just say I went to both the NC games we won, and they do not come close to the pandemonium of that game. I had never seen the goal posts come down. Loved it when the announcer was telling everyone to stay off the field.
Another great one! Herb Tyler running it in & Faulk's Later Gators on the cover of sports illustrated. . Amazing game, good times. Trying to add a pic
For me: Saban was the best coach LSU has ever had. Miles was the most successful coach in LSU history. I appreciate and respect both. Wish Saban didn't move on. Glad Miles did. Saban brought a winning attitude back to LSU. Miles continued it, and briefly elevated it. Saban would have been just as successful at LSU, had he stayed, as he has gone on to be at Bama, and would be just as revered b/c he is a phenomenal coach who just needed a platform of support and high quality players to execute it. He had it at LSU, and continues to get it at Bama. Miles was a class guy who recruited at the same level as Saban and was able to succeed at a program like LSU due to the foundation Saban created, recruiting prowess, and because he was a good motivator. However, I don't think he would have been as successful at another program like Saban ended up being due to his unwillingness to change blocking schemes, and unwillingness to truly commit to establishing a passing game.
I think Jimbo has to be brought up as Saban's offensive success, and Miles (early on success) on offense. Saban was the better for his hands on approach with the secondary early on. Miles was better for his personality, and go for it attitude. I can not say Saban was better at LSU, because he was not. Alabama is a much different booster organization than LSU. How many probation's have they been on? Saban would never have been as successful here or Michigan State as Alabama and he wasn't. I think it was the perfect system, win at all costs. Saban and Bryant were perfect for that fanbase and boosters. Control, Control, Control Money unfortunately talks. No other organization in college football has two 6 National Championship coaches and there is a reason for it.
I got curious and I may stand corrected about Michigan State. ----- Alabama, Auburn and Michigan State are tied for fourth all time for sanctions. The nice thing or not so nice (if you want to win no matter) is LSU did not make the list. Thru 2012 Saban has only had one year at Alabama his first 2007 were he had a 7-6 record. Correct me if I'm wrong wasn't that the last year of there probation? Other than that he has never had less than a 10 win season. He surely never did that anywhere else. I believe he never would have done it elsewhere. https://247sports.com/college/nebra...AA-Probation-Who-has-been-on-it-most-10728382
