Taking a publications word for a prediction after spring practice is laughable. LSU will not be 6-6, you can bet on that.

Saban never had the success in Baton Rouge that Miles had.

I will not bet on it. The fact is we do not have experience at QB, RB and WR for the first time since I can ever remember. The FACT
I surely will not bet on this team.
Pull for this team is another story. If they win or lose I will always bleed purple and gold.

Just like a few of the posts in this thread there's more than one version to any story. As example, after both coaches won their NC's the following year Saban was able to maintain the "flow" of the program better than Miles. Extenuating factors in both stories? I'm sure. One did maintain the level of the success better than the other.

IE: Saban after '04 had two conferences losses (including that one point loss to Auburn.) The year following the '07 title LSU had four conference losses (hence the '08 reference earlier...at least I suspect that was the point.)

Let me add this. Dabo having Clemson back in the playoffs...maintaining success, right? Kirby this year? We'll see. I wouldn't bet on it at this point.

The problem with all of you regarding Miles is that you want to focus on one thing or the other instead of the full picture. There is no dispute that Miles was the most successful coach we ever had. Facts back that up. But you all are only focusing on the negatives. Yes, he seemed to get entrenched in his method of coaching and did not change which is why he is not coaching here anymore. He made mistakes that caused us to lose games. He also did some of the most gutsy plays in other games. But to not admit the good things he did for and at LSU shows your inability to see the whole picture. You cant focus on the last few years of what he did as coach and claim that is his legacy because its not. You look at the whole body of work - you don't cherry pick it

Excellent post, and you are right. No one can deny the win totals, the championship win and all the other things. My contention is that those things were accomplished in spite of him and not because of him. Great recruiter, pretty run of the mill average coach. There is not a damn thing special about anything he did outside of recruiting. Play calling is bad, time management down right awful, no feel for the game and as has been said, coached scared or "coaching not to lose" instead of coaching to win. This is chronicled by the 2 or maybe 3 times he had Tx down by 21 or more, maybe as much as 35 once at half and lost. Did it again early in his career here against the vols.

Look, I love the guy, he is as slapstick as they come but he just isn't a very good coach. Now can we please let this thing die?

How he left the program tarnishes his accomplishments, especially considering he followed Saban and despite having a head start he was lapped by Saban at another program. It wasn’t all bad, and it seemed to turn for the negative after 2011.

Too bad Saban fell in your lap, we might have had another decade of Shulas and Franchiones.
