Saints used a 7th rounder on an LSU player just to get the label off, no credit is due to the organizational structure of the Saints. Plenty of LSU players available earlier in draft that fit needs. I gave up on Saints drafting LSU players long time ago, no faith they start a new trend.
Once they put on the black and gold, I couldn't give a Democrat's ass for where they were before. He's a Saint now..let's see what he's got.
I just have a hard time seeing Sean Payton, who is one of the most successful NFL coaches of the last decade and an half refusing to draft LSU players or drafting one just to "get the label off" It's far more likely that when it was their turn to draft, either due to need or due to their own grades, they had guys they preferred to the LSU guys. Clapp is, to me, the kind of backup offensive lineman the Saints needed being able to play all positions. it would shock me if he didn't stick, at least on the practice squad. Based on the last two years draft, in fact, I would prefer that they keep doing what they are doing to be honest and not taking LSU guys just to make us happy
Coincidently if you look at the '16 class LSU signed it's the same ratio of guys on the line versus overall commits and that class came in second.
