I'd like to take a snapshot of TF right now so that we have a moment in time that we can revisit after the game on Saturday. The snapshot of TF right now as I see it: Thurs Nov 29th. 2 days before the SECCG. Predominately negative. Most posts are lamenting either the way the team has played or the way the coaches have coached or the way the season played out. Most are viewing the SECCG as either a dissapointment or are somewhat apathetic about it. There are of course those who have the exact opposite view and they seem to be trying to pep everyone up. Very unusual for TF. Very little discussion of the actual upcoming game or the strengths and weadnesses of the opponent. There are some who are trying to stave off the groundswell of negativity but they are, for the most part, being driven back by the tide. Even some of those you would think are die hard are getting caught up in the wash. Lots of coaching threads about who everyone thinks should or will replace Miles. At this point in time it seems to be a forgone conclusion that Miles is leaving. I think it would be interesting to visit this snapshot after the game on Saturday and see how different or how similar TF is to what is going on right now.
Sad but true. You would hardly know there is any game at all on Saturday, much less one that only two SEC teams have the honor to play in. We have a lot of teams in our rearview mirror that wish they had this game to focus on. I can only hope the players are not as caught up in this nonsense as we all seem to be. Man, what a crazy season.
What you don't realize is that if LSU beats Tennessee, especially if they whollop them, then it will an even bigger groundswell of "what if" regarding the Arkansas game. And rightfully so. If we lose, then it's off to "I hope Michigan takes Miles off our hands" lamenting land. It's a no win situation at this point. TF will just have to deal with it. It's the reality of the situation. I am frankly tired of hearing "well at least we're not back in the Hallman or Dinardo era". Hell, that was 8 years ago. This program has progressed to new heights. No longer are we hoping to go 8-3, ala the Charlie Mac years and maybe just maybe beat the big dog (Bama in those days). We're far past that. It's time for fans to realize that we can achieve much much more. Don't settle people. Please don't settle. Act like you're part of a top tier program. It's what you hoped we would be. We're there now. Act like it, dammit. Do you realize had it not been for a fluke Iowa touchdown in the bowl game, LSU would be in the process of finishing in the top 6 in the BCS for the 5th straight year? Yes, that's right. SEC Championships are fine and dandy, and I'll gladly take it after we defeat Tennessee this weekend. But when you got a national championship in your hip pocket, you just can't drop it like we did. All that being said, I am a damn proud Tiger fan. I look forward to our immediate future and for the program to stay top tier for a long long time. There are national championships on the horizon if we play our cards right, not just mere SEC Championships.
