Skyler Green is the Bengals' number one punt returner. Glad he got a the chance to show what he can do: But the Bengals rescued Green from the NFL's scrap heap, claiming him off waivers. Now he's Cincinnati's No. 1 punt returner. The 5-foot-9, 190-pounder returned three punts for 47 yards, a 15.7 average, in the preseason opener at Detroit. His long gain was a 37-yard burst down the left sideline. "It boosted my confidence a lot," Green said Monday. "If I get a little bit of space, and I have time to get my eyes focused upfield, there's a lot of good things I can do. "I try to make my speed overwhelm (defenders). They flow to me and then I plant my foot and just make a great cutback. Returners understand that if you can play with your speed, and you also have great cutback ability, big plays can happen." http://www.daytondailynews.com/spor.../pro/bengals/2007/08/13/ddn081407bengals.html
i hope so too. with dallas, they bulked him up to try to make him a scat-back, and he lost a ton on his speed and agility, so i hope he can do well here.
I was so disappointed too. I didn't realize that Parcells pushed him to bulk up but that was what he seemed to do with all the Cowboys. Even Brady was playing at weight he felt too heavy. Glad he is gone back to TV and good luck to Skyler.
I thought when he was recruited that Saban told him that he was gonna make him an NFL CB, I guess he took one for the team playing WR when we didn't have any. I so glad that he might have found a home and a place to shine, because he was amazing.
HUGE difference. Punt returns is pure instinct and athletic ability. It's more reaction than anything else. There's no time to really think about anything. Pure chaos is the best way to describe what's happening in front of you. It's like the most dangerous game of tag on the planet. Kick Returns, however have planned blocking schemes and escape routes. You should ALWAYS follow the blocks, because they are designed to work together. On a perfect blocking scheme, the returner should end up matched one on one with the kicker. The reason some have trouble with kick-off returns, is that they too often abandon the scheme and rely on instincts, which often takes them right into the zones that defenders are being blocked towards. So essentially, they are running right into the jaws of the attack. On punt returns, since there usually isn't a group of guys being blocked into a certain zone, following your instincts don't often lead into a flock of defenders.
