I'm pretty sure every defensive player awarded it played both ways.

I respect your opinion but it sure is harsh. There are lots of former football players and Heisman winners who don't agree. Not to mention that the players who help the winner get there can also take pride in the achievement. And yes of course, winning the Heisman is a great recruiting advantage..........been saying that for a long time here. It DOES mean something to young men in HS hoping to make a big splash. A Heisman Trophy with Dorsey's name on it can help to recruit ANY player, not just a D line guy.

I edited my post after you quoted it, but Charles Woodson was the only one that wasn't ac/dc.

I stand corrected, but in my defense, everything I encountered in my research only listed him as a cornerback.

I don't think the Heisman has ALWAYS been a joke...but even you must admit that it is now, VBall. I for one think Reggie deserved it...and maybe Matt...although I think Reggie deserved two. I don't care if he's not the best RB in the PROS, but he was definitely the best player in the NCAA. But when you have the Troy Smiths of the world beating out winning, without Jamarcus Russell even being invited?? Crazy. Add to that Jason White, Gino Toretta, Charlie Ward, Woodson beating out Peyton Manning...I could go on and on. It's obvious that it is not an award for the best player in most circumstances. It is for the best player on the most hyped team.

Is it always fair or accurate? No. Still doesn't make it a joke IMO. I think VY could have easily won. I think OJ should have won 2. Heck Gary Beban has been voted as the most undeserving winner in the trophy's history. Some say Tebow should be considered this year but won't cause he's a sophomore........who cares? Colt Brennan will get easily dismissed because of Hawaii's schedule. And still, it's something that PLAYERS want to win.

Think of it like the big sales award that most companies put in place. The award (monetary or otherwise) goes to the employee with the biggest numbers but it doesn't account for any cheating they may have done, help they may have received, shortcuts they may not have shared, customers who probably got screwed in the process, the less flashy employee who may have done more to benefit the company but didn't have the attention. I find that process to be more of a joke actually.

Back to back no. 1 overall picks (potentially) that werent even considered in the heisman? Troy Smith, an undrafted FA won it last year. So the Heisman proves to be not based on talent and skill level, but rather on the key player from offense of one of the BCSNC teams. So, my question is, why not Jacob Hester? Isit because he's a white RB? He has never fumbled since his first carry in his college career. That's like 250 carries or more. He has like 3 or 4 4th down conversions. He is one of the tougher RBs to tackle and is averaging 5 yards a carry. He already has 8 TDs and almost 800 yards. So he an surpass the 1000 yards and 10 TDs mark. He has ran for plently of first downs if I recall correctly and has shown a flashy highlight with the 87 yard TD he had last game, speed that silenced every critic about his "slowness." So again, why not Hester?

Note: I beleive the Heisman should go to Darren McFadden, but since the Heisman cares about the teams too, he probably wont get it.

Here's what they should play up.

Dorsey has a personality and style people like and will remember. You don't forget his name, his play resonates, and he attracts followers. Go to the other forum boards, and he is the one name, if any, they mention. Given his heroics in playing after the chop, there is some drama factor as well. The guy is not a cocky ass, doesn't play thug-ball, interviews well, is personable, and gives an overall impression of being just the type you want in college football.

Awards are chosen by human beings, not computers. Dorsey is the complete package of a player that people are drawn to admire. Media types love him. Sure he plays defense, but in an odd year, he might make a strong dark horse candidate. Even if he can't win outright, being there will say everything considering the position he plays.

I care. Tebow is either the best or second best player in the NCAA...along with McFadden. Yet with the fact that neither of their teams is the "flavor of the month", it's unlikely that either will win. McFadden should have won it last year, but his team wasn't #1 in the country, so he must not be the best player, right?:rolleye33: He's having a better year this year than last, but his team sucks, soooo.:bncry:

Just calling it like I see it...a fraud. I'm not the one that said the Heisman goes to the "best player in the country"...that's it's own claim...therefore, it's fraudulent...because it rarely actually goes to the best player in the country. With that, there is no debate...unless you wanna defend Troy Smith as the best player in the country last year.
