Tangent....suppose Tebow plays, and what Brett describes happens. What does everyone think the reaction in Tiger Stadium would be?

this is exactly it. i'm not a person that says 'gotta play em at their best' at all because there's a lot to say about being opportunistic.

that said, i have no bias about him playing or not. if that guy wants to play pro ball he needs to miss probably three games. brain injuries are no joke.

after the initial hit, there would be a pretty loud cheer.

but if he lay on the ground motionless like he did against KY, the place would get really phucking quiet.

we have a pretty classy fanbase in these situations.
if he got up and walked off under his own power, the crowd would give him a standing o.

hell they gave a pretty big cheer for that Vandy lineman that had to be carted off, and less than a half dozen people in the stadium even knew that guy's name.

I think you'd be able to hear a mouse fart.

Tebow is a great guy and a warrior and at the end of the day no one wants to see a guy badly injured, especially when it's a brain injury. Everyone knows whats at stake and if the guy goes down it will be horrible.

i do hope his family is getting independent clearances and opinions from some of the best in the country, not just what team drs say. i dont care if it sounds "paranoid" but if i were a parent, and it was an injury that could be that life-threatening if played too early, i would want someone far far away from gainesville giving an opinion.

hell, for insurance purposes, bradford has been seen by one of the top orthopedic surgeons in the country in birmingham, and it is rumored parents/insurance wont let him play again until he gets an independant clearance. i believe thats wise.

I would say that with the amount of pressure our Dline puts on the Qb, Tebow would be pretty safe in that department.

someone on ESPN radio (don't remember who) said something to the effect of:

"these players should all have independent dr (of their choice) available to them on the schools dime for situations like this to get a 2nd or even 3rd or 4th opinion. Someone who would (or at least should) have the kid's best interest long term well above the team's best interest short term."

    couldn't agree more.
I don't think they're gonna take any chances with Tebow.
But it's not hard to imagine a coach telling team doc "do what ever it takes to get him on the field this week!"
And then some quack pumping him full of excedrin and saying "headache gone, go get 'em!"

I think Urban Meyer loses some sleep this week. You know he wants Tebow to play to give his team the best chance to win. He'll be game planning for either Brantley to play or for Tebow in a reduced role as someone else stated. Let's hope that the doubt this creates ends up helping the Tigers.
I gotta say here, cuz I don't post much, that I don't hate Tebow and you can't fault the guy for being a great athlete. I can't see calling the guy names. He brings it every week and off the field he's a classy guy. It's the media that has annointed him (which is what grates on our collective nerves.) :po:
Yeah, I want to win this weekend...at any cost, but I'd prefer to see it against a 100% healthy Tebow. If the Tigers win against Brantley, you know those Gator fans will say it was because Tebow was not in the game. Man....just "bring it!!!!" :geaux:

I've been on the Florida boards and they think that they can win easily without Tebow. They are #1 in the SEC in about a dozen categories and they may have a point. Why risk Tebow for the rest of the season? If they are truly #1, and they think they are, then it's not about a single player. If they come in here and win without Tebow they will have made a powerful statement to the pollsters.

We better be planning for either quarterback.

exactly. too much is riding on some of these kids and too many drs may feel pressured to give a "best case scenerio" instead of equally weighing all things. i dont think any dr would want a kid hurt but the pressure could make someone "not fully calculate the odds" of something.

it really looked like bradford was gonna play, and the trip to birmingham was just for insurance clearance. the media here made it sound like no big deal, he's ready, just gotta get an independent ortho to sign off. well, you saw where he was last night. on the sidelines not anywhere near dressed for the game.
