MLB did something similiar many years ago with Steinbrenner and the Yankees. I am just wondering if the NFL shouldn't do something what is going on in Oakland. The Raiders are an embarrassment to the NFL product at large, and with the situation with Tom Cable after what already transpired with the firing of Kiffin, it goes way beyond play on the field.
Found this: Steinbrenner was not running the Yankees in the ground, he was paying for info to use against a player, surely shady activity. I don't see a reason to force Davis out. It's his money and if he wants to spend it unwisely, then he can. Only a fan revolt (boycott) may force him to sell the team. I would not buy a season ticket till they proved they could win. Go week by week and after 0-3, see ya next year. Only money and reality will talk to Davis.
I would say no, Al Davis has done a lot for the NFL, especially the AFL as he was one of the godfathers of the AFL. He has had success and he has a loyal fanbase, and from what i have read, players who play for him absolutely love him. Lane Kiffin is a douchebag, he blamed all of his shortcomings on Al Davis and the Raiders, and most of that drama was clearly all on Kiffin. Tom Cable won a few games at the end of the season so Al kept him around, but that was a mistake. If he could get a great football mind in there to handle football operations, and general manager, the Raiders have the money to be a player in an up and down division.
Al has done as much for the NFL as anybody. However, in recent years he has done almost as much to bring the league, particularly his franchise, down. The Silver and Black have been worse than a laughing stock for years. It's all about Al's ego now, I don't think he even cares about winning so long as everything is his way. The poor old senile guy refuses to stop trying to shove a square peg into a round hole. MLB also kicked Marge Schott to the curb after she did the same thing to the Reds and publicly embarrassed baseball one time too many. I think he doesn't have too much longer on earth (he's 80) so maybe they're hoping to let him die with the few shreds of dignity he has left and then work with new ownership to move forward. I have to say given all he's done, let him ride it out for a few more years until he dies.
Raiders turn to another Russell - Inside Bay Area That'll make Al hustle. At least JaMarcus played better in a win over the Eagles. Raider D came through and was the big difference.
