This might be true, except for the fact that the reason he lost his temper that day is mere speculation. Maybe he was upset that LSU just flat out whooped us that day. Everyone says its because he ran up the score. FACT? or OPINION?
I'm not taking up fo B. P. but coaches curse on the field all the time. B. P. was cursing miles and that ain't cool. I'm not making excuses for him. I'm just saying B. P. isn't the first to be caught using profanity on the football field by a camera man. Here's a vid to prove my point. LSU coach curses during Cotton Bowl - YouTube
Not even close to the same thing. Of course all football coaches cuss on the sidelines. That isn't want BP is taking a beating for. He pointed to Miles and said "F*ck you, Miles. F*ck you." Then he essentially blew him off for the post-game handshake. You didn't honestly think that this whole thing was merely about the use of profanity, did you?
You seemed to be at a loss for why this whole "incident" ever took place. If you read the article, that shouldn't be the case. If you're trying to imply that there's some other reason that BP did what he did, then we're all ears. Stop trying to make this about the media. The reporters did not fabricate the video or the post-game handshake. The fact that they're spending time talking about something that you think is frivolous takes nothing away from the facts of the situation. You're the only person who seems to think that maybe there's some other reason why he did it. The rest of the world doesn't have such an issue accepting the reality of it. But it doesn't matter what the reason was, even if it was something other than what we're "speculating" (yeah, right). There is no excuse for a head coach to act like that.
I know he was wrong in personally attacking miles. There is no doubt about that. His unsportsmanlike conduct is unbecoming a coach at any level. I'm not making any excuses for his behavior. I was just sayin coaches curse all the time on the sidelines. B. P. Was simply being a spoiled sport crybaby. It has everything to do with the unsportsmanlike behavior and not so much the cursing. That's all I'm sayin.
The bottome line is that BP is the Head Coach at a major university and his conduct was unbecoming of someone who holds that position. Everyone says and does things that they later regret, especially as it pertains to competition. That said, he should have addressed the issue later and expressed his regret for losing his cool. No one is asking him to not be passionate about the team and sport that he loves, just show some class and be man enough to admit when you are wrong. The larger issue is what signal does that send to your players that you cannot man up and admit it was poor sportsmanship?
I agree RW. I was kind of making light of the fact that he cursed...we all do. Petrino's classlessness was magnified by the post game "FU" to Miles more than getting caught on the sidelines like Les Miles did eating the grass. Arkansas ran up the scores in a lot of their games this season...I was shocked that Petrino took exception to us scoring late in the game. Of all people he should understand...and he should also understand that he represents the University of Arkansas and his own fanbase shouldn't be exposed to his profane petulance. But MakonBacon has a great point...namely how long should it take for everyone to put it behind them. If Petrino never apologizes...that's on him. It just exposes his deficiency of human values...it's no reflection on me or my personal values. He's been exposed for what he really is. If I were him, I'd privately apologize to Miles and publicly apologize to everyone else and then move on...like the article says. Mostly everyone would forgive him and hold him in higher regard than now. But he sure didn't as far as we know....that's revealing of his character.
See, this is what I'm talking about. Show me proof where he deliberately "ran up the score." I see lots of scores on the ticker where it's 52-3. If you have second, third string players out there late in the game what else can you do? If this is true than LSU "ran up the score" twice this year. "I was shocked that Petrino took exception to us scoring late in the game. Of all people he should understand." Why is this considered fact? Because GaryMFDanielson said so in the video? I'm not an expert lip reader as many here are. All I can guarantee is the word MF. At whom or why is not clear. He could have been cussin' the ref for all I know. Was it unsportsmanlike? yeah. Do I worry about that hurting the players moral fiber? No. Maybe I'm being a stubborn homer. But I've yet to see concrete evidence to support the fact that BP cussed LM about running up the score, which coincides with his "character issues." As far as the handshake, how many rosy exchanges do you see after college football games? Still doesn't validate who he was pointing at. Derek Dooley didn't even walk out to centerfield in 2010! Oh the shame.... All I see is an emotional coach that was caught expressing frustration on the sideline. Arkansas fans, players, coaches aren't calling for an apology. I don't need one. I'm fine with Tigernation's opinion of my coach.
