Should Pete Rose be in the Hall

  1. Yes. The HOF is strictly about on-field performance.

    I voted NO.

betting on baseball is the biggest no-no in the game. There are posters in every locker room saying you will be banished for life if you gamble on baseball. There are no disclaimers about how you bet, or who you bet against. It just states plainly that if you do it, you're gone.

Pete knew this, and did it anyway. I don't feel sorry for him. He knowingly broke the rules, and now has to suffer the consequences. Shoeless Joe is still banned, even though his numbers from that series were good enough to win MVP, just because he knew about a fix. He dug his own grave, and now must lie in it.

Nope. I used to think he should, but his credibility has dropped so precipitously that I have no faith in whether he bet on his own teams or not. Such behavior undermines the integrity of the game, and should preclude him from being in the HoF.

Pete did more harm to the game than good. He is an absolute disgrace.

the first rule of any for-profit sport is that all participants must not gamble on their sport. it is the most important thing. gambling can topple the whole business, ruin the entire thing for everyone. anybody gambling risks it for everyone else. rose shouldnt be allowed near a bat or ball, much less a hall of fame.

Being forced to play most of his career in a restricted earnings period, he had no choice but to supplement his income.

It is no different than todays players being forced to cheat if they want to be competitive.

It is baseball's fault, it created the environment. Certainly not the individual's responsibility to abide by the rules.
