I agree with this take. I don't think LSU has anything to gain from flirting with a conference that is on the verge of being euthanized. I think it would make us look bad.
No. Because it would be an obvious bluff. We would look stupid. You feel like a stepchild in the SEC?? Everyone is Texas's bitch in the 12. That's why TAMU jumped. I work in downtown Houston with a bunch of Aggies, and they have no regrets - -other than being Tiger bait every year.
My view from big 12 country. 1. Yes the big 12 is on life support and there is a vote next weekend that should tell us more. Not sure what the vote is on, but once it's done we will have a better idea on the longevity of the conference. 2. While it may be on life support it is bringing I believe the 3rd most money in TV contract behind the Big 10 and SEC. Crazy I know. IF and that is an astronomical IF they were able to add a team like LSU they go from life support to spring chicken. LSU would save that conference and make it relevant for the rest of the lifetime of anyone capable of posting here sans a few (taint, dumbo,Rex) 3. From a purely personal POV, I don't make or take the call. It's a chickenshit move and promotes a weak stance. This is the equivalent of telling the teacher on the bully. I'm more of a punch him in the nose type fella.
What leverage does it give you if everyone knows you're bluffing? The SEC office would call that bluff every time and LSU would either have to actually leave or back down and look like pussies in the process.
Well of course you don't make it known you are bluffing. Was Texas A&M a bunch of pussies for wanting to leave the Big 12? You don't think that if the Big 12 had an amazing offer and gave LSU everything it wanted and then some it wouldn't be a good thing? Do you think Nick Saban told Jimmy Sexton, no Jimmy, don't put my name out there. I make enough money, I don't need you to talk to other places inquiring for my services. Everyone here acts like we are married to the SEC, and we would be cowards if we left when everyone here has probably left situations themselves for better ones. LSU would bring the Big 12 back to life, and if they wanna talk you talk. See what they have to offer. If the offer is bad, you stay, and it shows the SEC, I don't see a ring on this finger bitch. If it's too good to pass up, fuck it, bye. It's 2016, tradition means nothing anymore, all that matters is green.
One party would benefit from a unilateral move to the Big12; the Big12. And I doubt we alone revitalize them. Maybe we could swing it as a positive, but it would take some tight administrative moves for quite a few years to walk that line. That's a tall order out of a group that totally screwed a pooch last year with the "treat Miles like he treats his QBs" debacle (eg, the mismanagement of Miles' termination). We could make it interesting though... _B12 South_ LSU Ole Miss Moo U Baylor TCU Texas Tech Texas _B12 North_ Mizzou Arkansas OU Okie Lite KS K St Iowa St The SEC would take a hit losing 5 teams, but even so, the B12 be looking dusty. _SEC N_ Maryland VA Tech UNC WV KY TN Vandy _SEC S_ FSU UF Bama AU UGA USC Aggies The SEC looks like the winner, LSU the loser. Even getting teams like Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado to join the B12 feels like a loss for LSU. The southeast is where it's at.
I voted no. The SEC is the premier conference in college football and has been for a long time. Winning the SEC Championship game punches your ticket to the BCS playoff. The Birmingham Bias isn't going away. The answer is to win football games and let the chips fall where they may.
I would rather take in two more schools in the west and kick the gumps and the warchickens to the "least" division of the SEC. I don't think we should go any where. I for one could not stomach chanting Big 12, Big 12, Big 12 and not SEC, SEC, SEC. uhhhh I feel nauseated just saying that.
