Just wondering with the Bama game if it might be a good move to try and put a couple of fast D-Linemen (like Mingo, Rasco, etc...) in as every down LBs.

I know the Texans did this with Mario Williams this year. He’s 6-6, 290. And until he got hurt 4 weeks ago he had 5 sacks and a forced fumble.

I'm not suggesting we switch to a 3-4, but since we are 2-deep on the D-line I would love to see that combination of bulk, speed, and height to help slow down Richardson and Lacey this week.

I really liked the way Tahj Jones played against Auburn. I hope to see him with more playing time.

These are the type of OLBs Chavis covets. Versatile and fast.

We'll never have a huge LB corps as long as Chavis is here.

And it will never be the focal point of this defense most likely.

The team that starts making changes to what they do has let the other team get over on them. If lsu starts making wholesale changes then bama would be dictating terms of play. It is lsu that should impose itself on bama not the other way around.

I would agree with you during a "normal" running back threat. But Richardson is a different beast altogether and Lacey is no slouch either.

I especially like the idea of having a height advantage with those talker LBs breaking up short passes over the middle. Seems like that's all WVU did that against us all night.

It wouldn not matter. They would take out an H-Back and LSU would go to Nickel. That's the versaltility of pro-style systems, and why it works for LSU, too.

I also love the way Tahj Jones flies to the ball and can get after the QB.

Hoping we see a good deal of him on Saturday.

This defense has been getting it done. I don't think its is simply a size thing we need to stop a power running game. Quick linemen and linebackers can disrupt a blocking scheme badly. Quick outside linebackers and get to the middle very fast without first compromising the corner. Quick backers hit harder, too. Our converted DB linebackers are an asset in the passing game and Bama will be passing.

They call Mathieu a cornerback and use him at nickel a lot, but he often lines up as a weakside linebacker at the snap.

Richardson is definitely a beast, but the players we have now are playing well enough to be starters on an elite defense. If we play bigger linebackers, we might lose a lot more in other areas like speed, schemes, blitzing, etc. Our D-line will be clogging up the line so Richardson will be slowed down there and our linebackers will just need to make sound tackles.
