News Should Les give Mett a more serious look this season?

Red, let's say that LSU is struggling and is down to either Arky or GA. Lee has two picks and has lost his confidence and JJ is not moving the ball at all - just 3 and Outs over and over again.

Don't you think Les would try and insert Mett and get something going to move the offense a little bit?

I'm just not so sure if the season is on the line that Les won't have a "damn the torpedoes" attitude and do whatever it takes to get the W.

Les has burned more Redshirts this year more than at any other time. (Hairston, Rasco, Hilliard, etc)

I think we are looking at a different Les than the past few years and that he is changing into more of a "win at all cost" mentality these days.

That's a lot of pressure for a new guy. At least Lee and Jefferson have been there before. I've never seen Mettenberger throw but I can't help but think that if he had the stuff to outplay Lee and Jefferson, he would have been starting before now.

The worst time to put a rookie in is when you are losing the most important game of the season . . . and let him take the blame for a loss.

I just don't see Mettenberger playing unless we have at least one senior QB down for the season. That might induce Les to work Mettenberger into the game a bit, but not to save a lost game.

    # 2 Qb is the most popular guy on the team in most football cases.....except ours, now it's the # 3 QB!!

I am confident, that had Miles given Mettenberger quality snaps in the first 4 games, he would be standing before us as the starting QB. His skill set and upside is completely different and above that of JL and JJ. As it turned out, JL performed admirably and earned the PT. LSU is still winning in spite of the QB's. The only way to know IF Mettenberger is the answer is to wait until the Spring. I do not see Miles inserting Mettenberger into any of our remaining games (Ole Miss, Arky, UGA and NCCG) unless we jump out to an insurmountable first half lead. I think we are lucky JJ got suspended and JL has performed above expectations this year and redeemed his career at LSU, but I think we may all scratch our heads next year and ask what was Miles thinking when we get to see how good Mettenberger really is.

You would be 100 % correct.

We would certainly not be doubting the QB position as most LSU fans are doing if Mettenberger were handed the reins early in the season.

We'll be fine, at least until the SECCG. However, I would love to see Mett actually throw a pass in a game. Are they trying to redshirt him? Is he even eligible for a red shirt this year?

We're going 14-0 with these QBs.

I hope they both have significant PT from here on out. It would only be fitting.

Something tells me that's what will happen. JJ starts vs Georgia, they stop the option, have a spy that prevents him from running freely out of the pocket. He's ineffective. Lee enters, throws a couple of key touchdowns, LSU wins by 10.

Man I hope you guys are correct. I will leave it alone for now but I will feel sick to my stomach if we let a game slip away during this magical season because of inept QB play.

Just praying the rest of the way that our defense does their thing and our O-line gives Lee and JJ enough time to make a few plays enough for the W.

Couldn't agree more. Meanwhile, I'd like to see my young friend work on his LEADERSHIP skills. Great quarterbacks tend to be an inspiration to their team-mates and urge them to aim higher. Great quarterbacks tend to be young men who demand a lot of themselves so they can look at those around them and demand that they be their best.

I can't think of anyone in the world who has had life unfold for him in as auspicious a way as Mett has, the set-up in Bremerton notwithstanding. I hope he seizes the opportunity.

I don't know if it is right or not, but, after Saturday's game with WKU, I bet Miles starts JJ, plans on playing JJ 90% of the snaps, and we only see JL IF we are ahead or JJ gets injured. Ole Miss should be an easy win game, but JJ still sees the majority of snaps and JL does mop up in the 4th quarter. I think Arky and UGA will be games with tough defenses and JL folds like a cheap suit when faced with tough defenses. For some reason JJ is calmer under pressure and it is my opinion that is what Miles has been banking on. Personally, I think we need JJ and JL 50/50, but I don't think that will happen nor will Mettenberger get involved, which is a shame, because he could make our offense really go.
