Be allowed to bail on America with no penalty? Let's talk about inversion. Who are the real takers here? Inversion on the corporate level is basically saying (since corporations are people and everything) that I as an American, will adopt a child in Ireland, and become a dependent on that child's taxes in Ireland. Someone please explain to me how these so called people are patriotic? Let's take Walgreens. They are about to move their base of operations to Switzerland to save about 4 billion in American taxes but will be able to continue to reap the massive profit from the American healthcare system specifically the price they can charge for drugs here in the United States. Even though everything about this company is completely American and Americans are the ones who made this corporation what it is, it will be allowed to bail on America with zero penalty. I can't even bail on my 401k without a penalty.
How about American unions be stopped from forcing ridiculous wages that drive work overseas in order to remain competitive on a global level? How about the American government stop awarding contracts to foreign countries (ACA implementation)? How about America just withdraw ALL foreign support....of cultures, military defense, healthcare, etc? Why not just overhaul the ridiculous, cumbersome, complex corporate tax system that is driving companies out of America? We are in a global economy, competing for our very business lives. If forced to stay in America with the current system, you won't be able to find or buy anything that says "Made in America" because taxes will close down most companies that are not behemoths. You want to see how it happens in a microcosm? Look at California. We have perfected the art of outward corporate migration.
This is a serious question... Do you have any idea what private ownership means and what it entails. What you fail to see is that it is policy from our government that drives corporations away. Why punish the corps because our government promulgates shitty anti-competitive policy? Would it not be better for us if we were competitive with the nations we are losing jobs too instead of being vengeful that free entities are choosing not to subjugate themselves to bad policy?
Its not a question of "should they be allowed to move." Its not against the law. Lots of foreign companies sell their products in the USA. Do you drink Budweiser? Anheuser-Busch is now owned by InBev, a Belgian brewing company.
Less than 12 % of American workers are unionized, it is lower than it has been in 70 years (during WWII). This doesn't fly. Then they will stop awarding contacts to US firms. We make a lot of money overseas. It's an international economy and isolationism is a recipe for failure and collapse. It would certainly be a resignation from any concept of being The Superpower. You would not like a world in which we were not a Superpower. More isolationist notions. Foreign aid is a cheap way to get influence around the world that provides us with bases around the globe, global markets, and global resources. It is far cheaper than war and much cheaper than isolationism which is an economy killer. Our enemies in China and Russia are spending huge amounts in foreign aid to further their aims. Should we just surrender the world to them? Now this is an idea with traction, as long as the right abandons it's ridiculous notion that we can get something for nothing. And the notion that believes only the profits of the rich elite and corporate America are important. Taxes are for the little people. You have a strange concept of "we". When US corporations go multinational, they stop being "us". They not only avoid paying their fair share of American taxes for the business they conduct here, but they quickly lose any sense of national loyalty. They pay taxes to foreign governments and are dependent upon same. We can no longer count on them during wartime or in trade negotiations. You seem to both defend the right of US corporations to leave for foreign lands and then bemoan it at the same time. It is confusing
No I don't drink. Alcohol is man made poison like meth. But I use Walgreens because of vast amount of profit they make in the United States. So most people on this board want to stop immigration and poor people quit getting handouts or being freeloaders, but you're cool with me, you, and what's left of the American middle class paying for the things Walgreens uses to make their killer profit. It doesn't make sense. Corporations are people remember? Why should they get to live the American dream and dodge taxes when your average joe can't?
I fill my prescriptions at Sams Club. A lot cheaper than Walgreen's. When you get the munchies do you wash down man made poisonous candy bars, chips and Little Debbie with man made poisonous Cokes, Dr Pepper, root beer, Sprite or Mountain Dew?
How many of Walgreen's non-pharmaceutical items are made in China? Some of that profit comes from paying pennies to low-wage workers in China, not American workers who likely wouldn't accept minimum wage.
