To quote you....Wait, what? LSU does have traditional rivals, but they are in the Western Division. Again, forget LSU for a second.....where the hell did the rivalry between Mississippi State and Kentucky come from? Arkansas and South Carolina? Like LSU/UF....they were invented by the SEC in order to appease Bama/UT and Auburn/UGA. I don't know if UF fans gave a damn about LSU before this season. I know I have several long-time friends who are Florida fans, and they get much more excited about playing FSU or Miami. And again, the series when it was Meyer vs Miles was pretty competitive, and both teams were usually highly ranked. Those games meant something in that context. When Spurrier was here, LSU sucked, and Spurrier was the Darth Vader of college football. Everyone hated him, and LSU hated everyone.
I don't know if I believe that, but its irrelevant anyway. Same division, we're playing each other every year until the conference re-aligns.
LSU may be 3rd on some Bama fans list. I've been a fan going on half a century and LSU ranks below east teams in my view. LSU became relevant in the last 12 years. Hardly rivalry in my eyes.
I'm ok with that, but you gotta make some sacrifices to make it work with everyone. We do have some history with aTm pre-sec, but I like the AU game more. The good thing is the rotation is every 2 years.
Alabama is not our rival. That's some made up bullshit. Tulane and Ole Miss are the only rivals I can think of.
I disagree I think the gumps are a huge rival. Especially with our more recent history. Tulane not so much. I think rivals will change from years to years. For example gumps and the vols might have been rivals but it is hard to get upset with each other when there is no competition, like us and tulane.
I'd guess uk and MooU have a long history; MooU has quite a few of those. LSU and UF also have a pretty long history.
Since 1992, sure. Before that, LSU and UF played something like 30 times in 80 previous years. Like I keep saying, its a rivalry invented by the SEC to justify an inequitable scheduling format needed to appease certain teams. Period, full stop (quoting Jim Finks there).
Traditionally speaking, which is the argument everyone likes to make when these things are brought up, no Alabama is not our rival. And I still don't see them as a rival today. I don't like them, I wish they would sink into the earth, but I don't consider them a rival.
