So, should Colt David get benched in favor of one of the freshmen kickers Jasper or Crutchfield? Coach Les Miles had obviously lost faith in him, and from the feeling I got at the game so have the fans. He has the power, but his accuracy is very questionable.
No, he had one bad game. If he continues to kick like Olindo Mare, then yes pull him, but until then give him a chance.
How had Miles obviously lost faith in him? Because he went for the win instead of a tying field goal? Frankly, I think that shows he had more faith in his offense to get the job done, as opposed to a lack of faith in David to kick the tying field goal. And no, I don't think he should be benched. College kickers are just not experienced enough to be automatic like NFL kickers.
I know he's made 8 fg's, but not sure how many attempts he has. I was in the South endzone and the second one he missed was VERY close, in fact, most of us thought it was; though it was above the goal post so figured we just didn't have as good a view. I always focus on the post to see if the ball "Blocks out" the post, so-to-speak and it's easier to tell. Like I said though, this one was above it a little. 8 inches to a foot more to the right and he's a star today, or we may have kicked off- had he made it- and they could have run it back for a TD. The way it worked out, with us getting the turnover and a short field after they took possession, Miles may have told him to miss it.
I think it's a confidence thing. If he makes a few in the next games, then his confidence and reliability will increase. If not, bring on the freshmen. Life is a slippery path for a place kicker.
Seems he has made a few kicks for LSU, I can't imagine benching him. You really want to mess up your kickers, start pulling them. The guy will come through.
Colt was 8 o 10 before those kicks so he's now 8 of 12. No way should he get benched. He will be fine this next week. Miles has a great feel for the game and his players. Whatever he does is fine with me.
