So you don't think anything else he does, can have a negative effect on the program? As long as he is winning it's ok?
Of course! Nick Saban was a cold fish, a real dick personally. A perfect asshole to everybody, he intimidated a lot of players and was never warm and fuzzy to fans, the press, or the rest of the school. But he won games and we lived with his baggage. Les and every coach that ever lived has faults that we can dissect and argue about. But we let the winning coaches win ball games. Les will not win them all and neither does Nick. But he wins a hell of a lot of them and that is his job. It's really his only job--win football games. He's eccentric, odd, and unconventional, but he's also passionate, compassionate, honest, and interesting. I'll take all of that baggage as long as he's winning. He's not publicly lying, like Nick did. He's not punching players like Woody Hayes. He's not cheating like Jim Tressel. He's not being a prick, like Lane Kiffen. Best of all, he's not being a loser like Jerry Stoval, Mike Archer, Hudson Hallman, and Gerry Dinardo. We could do a lot worse than Les.
That's funny, during his stint as head coach of LSU, I don't ever remember saying to myself "Man it sure is nice to win, but I really don't like this Saban guy". We all thought he was GOD when he was here. And if you say anything different, you're straight up lying. We loved that he was an asshole. We all loved it when he ran up into Travis Daniels' face in the Georgia game and chewed him out for giving up a 12 yard out. We had an asshole coach who is going to give us a chance to win a national championship more years than not. We struck gold.
2 consecutive bowl game losses, signing classes are now top 10 instead of top 5. Time management issues still exist, stupid penalties still occuring. O-line issues exist with a coach who was a offensive lineman. Poor offense has been a problem for Les most of his tenure. He also threw in the towel for a NC game. He benches a 8-0 starter for one who put himself above the team, got in trouble with the law, was suspended regardless of the fact that it made LSU's offense one dimensional. And then he rewards suspended players upon their return, by letting the guys on the team who chose to do the right thing, stay out of trouble, and work hard drive the length of the field, and then puts the former suspended player in for the easy touchdown (2 times this happened). You think this doesn't effect a team? Does this not effect recruiting? How can these issues be overlooked. How are they not real? Reality, he wins, he's a nice guy, he recruits well. He'll be here awhile. But that is only part of it.
