you bet. Regardless, I think the Saints are a playoff team again, but that has more to do with Vilma and a patchworked secondary than it does Shockey.
I would too, but the Saints have made me a cynic and a skeptic. What free agent or trade pickup has ever pushed the Saints into the "next level"? Brees? Yeah right. We almost made the playoffs last year.
If you don't think 2006 was a sign that good things can happen to this franchise, then it's hopeless for you and I'm sorry. I know I didn't live throught the pre-Mora years, but I've been a fan since 1988 (I was 9 that year) and have gone through the Ditka years and watch this team squander their great opportunity after Haslett got them to their first playoff win. Still, I have enough in the tank to stay optimistic. On a side note, I'd just like to point out the irony in two things on this thread. First, clair called a player out based on character. Second, SabanFan takes the doomsday, pessimistic approach. No insult intended, I just think it's pretty funny.
Last year erased 2006 from my hard drive. The Saints have had several one year wonder seasons. They've just never been able to sustain. Simply put, the optimist sees 2006. The pessimist sees 2007.
They were 8-5 before and 2-1 in the regular season after he got hurt. Wow, what a mind-boggling difference. They went on a 4-0 run in the playoffs in which the defense played out of their mind and the tight end position was a fairly minimal factor in that success. I am still researching to see if Shockey played inside linebacker. Nothing yet......I'll keep you posted.
Its probably already been said, but if he works out in the locker room. He will be valuable, they need him to take pressure and double coverage from Colston. It would help if Reggie Cash, I mean Bush would contribute more as well. The offensive line aint the greatest either.
Shockey was a problem in the locker room in NY, that does not mean he will be a problem here! Who knows what was going on internally to make him that way. And getting into a new enviorment helps alot of the time, Look at TO in Philly there were HUGE problems, since coing to Dallas nothing even close to the hell he put the Eagles through. The guy started in what 02 so he has at least 2 to 3 more years left in him, and the Saints are ready to win NOW, not 5 years down the road. He brings a presence that the Saints havent had since......a long ass while and thats a TE that can strecth the field. Sure he has had injuries but a players desire to play can sometimes push past the injuires. Perhaps he was just tired of New York and saw a way out we dont know. He will be a huge for this team. Just think we will be able to run a 4 reciever set with only Colsten and Henderson/Patton/Copper/Moore (take your pick) in the WR slots!
Wasn't your hero, T.O. considered a cancer on his previous teams? He seems to be doing ok in dallas. Even though the Saints have won more playoff games in the last few years then the former "america's team" has.
T.O. was a cancer the first year he arrived in Dallas. He seems to have calmed down for whatever reason. Of course winning has a way of curing all ills. If the Cowboys stumble out the gate, T.O. will start up all his antics once again.
