I lost the whole "Payton knows what he is doing" mentality after he ran a reverse instead of just running out the clock.
I don't know how old you guy's are but it is just exciting that we have a group that at least tries. I have lived through years of the only trades being guys leaving the Saints only to be Pro Bowlers the next year or Great's who would grab that last paycheck before retiring by coming to the Saints :thumb::thumb:Nice to see the franchises in New Orleans trying to compete for championship's not just make money for the owner...
For all those concerned about the move, how many 2nd round picks are hit or miss anyway? We could have added some young talent in the second round, or we may have gotten another Josh Bullocks. It remains to be seen what kind of effect he has on the locker room, but it seems like he legitimately wants to be here. He likes Payton, and Brees is the type of QB who likes to get the ball to his tight end. All this on top of the fact that the Saints got shut down a bit by cover 2 defenses, and we have all the makings for him getting all the touches he's looking for. As long as he's a major part of the offense, I don't see him being a locker room cancer. As for injuries, this is the case with many of the Saints offseason acquisitions. They're rolling the dice, could come up big or it could be a long season. I prefer to take the optimistic approach.
Well why not give the 1st round pick to the Giants, then? Sure, the pick could be a stud, but he could also be a bust, too. Shockey is far from a sure thing can't miss guy coming off the injury and with his attitude problems.
I know I didn't just see you question somebody's ability to help the team citing character issues... First, there's a HUGE difference between a first round and a second round pick. We're talking about 32 spots down the list. Secondly, a 2nd pick might be a high price tag, but we're talking about a guy with big talent. Are you telling me if you're up in the 2nd round with pick No. 45-50 in the draft and Shockey's on the board, you wouldn't take a chance on him? That's your choice, but I'd take him at that spot. Lastly, the Saints are built to win now. It might be giving away a bit of our future, but I like seeing the front office make moves to fill holes on the team rather than leaving them there for many seasons in a row. The window of opportunity in the NFL closes very quickly and you have to take your chances when it's there.
you made my whole point for me. T.O. and the guys I support HELP their team. See the Cowboys and Eagles and 49ers records with him and then after him. Shockey's team reached the summit as soon as he went out of the equation.
Well we obviously have differring opinions on this one and there's no way to prove who's right or wrong right now. We'll just have to dig this thread up in a few months and see where things stand then. For the time being, I'll live in optimism. It's just more fun that way.
