What he said. He's not Peyton Manning. We cant go 5 wide with JJ. If you think about it, When does Manning go 5-wide? He usually has at least 1 TE and 1 RB to dump the ball off to. This is not a slight against JJ. People have different skill sets.

That's actually a very apt description of Crowton's offense. I wonder if Flynn had been younger if he would have struggled the same way Jordan and Jarrett have. Ryan had a smaller gameplan for the SECCG, too, didn't he? Crowton seems like a mad scientist, but without the brilliance.

It's like watching a playcaller with ADD. He's got a spreadsheet of plays in front of him, and seems to randomly pick them. We needed to either decide to run the ball, or become a short passing team, or be a spread option team.. instead as you said we were a little bit of everything, but not really good at any of them.

Hopefully either Miles steps in and forces the power run to become a focal point of the offense or Gonzales can call a lot of the plays. Those short bubble screens didn't seem to work either last season.

Really, the most baffling thing of all was the inability to get Russell into the game and make use of his talents. Even if he can only run 5 plays, get him in there and let him throw just to get the defense prepared for it. The fact he never threw was a problem. No one respected that possibility. Heck, have him throw it beyond the DBs and the WRs, but throw it.

The offense never seemed to attack a defenses weakness, either. It was standard stuff week after week, regardless of the opponent.

No doubt. Good point. I'm super excited about Peterson. He's got a lot of ability to be that vertical pass-catching threat we all hoped Richard Dickson would be before he got injured his senior year. Peterson's got more vertical range, though, and I'd love to see us stretch those safeties!

Shep is the one that is keeping himself off the field. He has to know the playbook and be able to do what he is supposed to in his sleep. I am worried about 1 thing when it comes to this receiving corp. How good are they in run blocking. We have had the luxury over the past decade or so of having not just good, but GREAT blocking receivers. Michael Clayton, Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Lafell, all could block exceptionally well. I haven't seen anyone in this group that holds a candle to those guys when it comes to blocking. Hopefully Tolliver and Randle can make strides, but anyway i don't see Shep with his size being able to hold off blocks for very long.

You and me both. I may work from time to time, but when it doesn't it fails miserably and we end up looking inept.

This is what Peterson's biggest threat is. The touchdown he scored against Bama is a great example of this. Maybe Chase Clement can be the safety valve. He could block and release late on a delayed route.

Talking about all of these weapons on offense makes me realize that if the coaches have any imagination and the offensive line improves we could be dangerous on offense.

this. anyone remember skyler green or josh reed? RS will need to bulk up a bit to be able to brush off DBs, but if he's quick enough, maybe not. i really, really miss jimbo fisher offenses. who the hell woulda thunk anyone would ever say that?! bubble screens and slip screens and watching receivers just flat out making defenders miss. seems like LSU moved away from those quick, 5-10 yard pick-ups with the ability to make someone miss and take it to the house in favor of just lobbing it down the field and hoping someone in purple/gold catches it.
