I see his arm as a weakness, relative to his ability to run, where he looks like a video game. He does not have the arm strength of JJ or Lee. His release is slower than Lee's but quicker than Jefferson. He does see the field very well and in the course of three games, I saw him make all the throws needed to succeed at the next level. If he had a little bit better support from his receivers, his stats would look better.

All that aside, his strength should improve markedly once he is in Moffit's S/C program. His work ethic is apparently off the charts. If ever a kid was supposed to reach his potential, it's Shep. Injury is the only thing that could hold him back.

Well, I see RP's situation as a blessing in disguise in more than a few ways. But, probably the most important thing stemming from it is that incoming freshman now have a prime example to look at before thinking they can just come in and not have to put forth any effort. Could you really have any more of a "text book" case?

Shep reminds me of Florida State's Heisman-winning QB Charlie Ward, who was another kid that had great character.

Ward was a model student-athlete at Florida State. As a senior and captain of the team in 1993, he voluntarily approached Seminoles head coach Bobby Bowden about a difficult situation surrounding incoming freshman Warrick Dunn, whose mother, policewoman Betty Smothers, was killed in the line of duty during Dunn's senior year of high school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Charlie served as a surrogate big brother to Dunn during the latter's first year in Tallahassee, helping him through a trying time by becoming his roommate and friend. Because of his integrity, Ward also managed to escape the fallout that many of his teammates received for the notorious scandal that surfaced in the months after FSU won the National Championship in 1993. In his senior year at Florida State, he also served as Student Government Vice-President, after he was asked to run by the Monarchy Party, a student government reform organization.

Regarding recruiting, Shepard had this to say to tigerrag.com

“And we have more wanting to come play for LSU too,” Shepard concluded. “I think some of the guys in this class are realizing LSU has the making for national championships. Then if you look at the future with me at quarterback, possibly a Debose at receiver, Terrance Tolliver, DeAngelo Benton and Brandon LaFell, it is going to be amazing. Coach Miles told me people think Florida is fast now, just wait until they see LSU in the next couple of years.”

A couple of thing strike me. He's gunning for the starting QB position, which is what I would expect from him. And secondly, doesn't mention Randle in the list of receivers. That's probably because Debose looks more and more like an LSU lock and Randle is still 50/50 in his mind. So nothing more to read into that I don't think.

In regard to his relationship with Chris Garrett:

“Chris (Garrett) and I might be rooming together,” Shepard said. “He is my boy and we developed a friendship during the entire recruiting period. It would be good if we lived together because we could support each other and go through the process together.

Incredible attitude to have. Simply incredible.

Can we nominate his mom and dad for parents of the year award?
