Not so much not jumping ship.....but continuing to recruit and sell LSU while his career is not where he thought it would be.....that shows me alot of his charcter! That's what I like about Russell Sheppard and his career at LSU!
If you would have told me four years ago that Shepard would go his entire career without throwing a pass, I would have never believed it.
I think (?) that Miles guaranteed Shep would throw a pass before his career at LSU was over. If I recall correctly, it was during Shep's freshman season when Miles would get asked about Shep over and over again. Shep's contribution to LSU should also include the fact that he helped recruit some really good players during his Sr year of HS. I went 0-4 with my expectations that "this year" would be his break through. However, the way Miles defended him recently and his special teams efforts makes me think he has been a valuable member of the team. While it seems unlikely that he will stick at the next level, I will be pulling for him.
It would be nice to have him back as a Grad assistant. I wish him well regardless of where he ends up.
He's been such a great ambassador for LSU, seems he stayed positive when he could have easily felt slighted and lashed out. Wish nothing but the best for him, he would be great to keep around the program in some capacity.
Me either. We have had a few non QB's throw passes in the last four years and I am disappointed that Shep didn't get at least one chance. I wonder why Les never let him... was it his passing skills or decision making that was the concern.
Josh watched him play in HS and he says he could throw it decently. The game he went to I think he ran for 200 and threw for 200. I would think that could translate into at least one pass in four years. There had to be something there for him not to get the chance. Maybe the speed of the game at the college level caused some problems. I would have rather see him in the wildcat with Ware as RB. Seems that would give you many options.
Evidently his high school coaches knew how to utilize his talents better than his college coaches. Sad.
